Garage track

Threw together a quick track for the kids last weekend with a bunch of anti fatigue floor mats and some pvc pipe. Took about 90 minutes to set up but was well worth the time invested.
I thought it would be large enough for micro's and m-18, but my mini-z was almost too fast. The track is 16x20 (2 car garage). I have 2 mini-z's and 3 x-mods (fairly disappointing). The stock tires on the xmods had surprisingly good traction though. The z I was driving was fairly stock except ball diff and x-speed. The x-mods didn't stand a chance.
I had about 8 of the neighborhood kids over and they all raced for about 6 hours. It took most of the afternoon but by the end of the day most of them were turning laps without hitting the walls (4 foot lanes I should hope so). Never the less it was their first experience racing rc.
If there are any racers in the Denver/Aurora area. I'll post next time we are going to set up the track.

Thanks for the feedback. The track was mostly for the kids, very open, just to introduce them to RC. BTW... there is a Hobbytown USA in Parker that has a RCP track.

fatigue tiles

Those are 2'x2'? I have those if they are but my track is only 2' wide. You gotta have skill to run fast on the track that narrow. Looks good. I had some pvc setup outside my last house and I kept running into the couplings. Nice setup!

2x2'

The X-Mods can't make tight enough turns to run on 2x2'. Plus none of these kids had run on any kind of track before. I have heard of a mod you can do to the xmods to improve turning radius. I'll have to look into it more.

2x2

Yeah I have an x-mod and it can't turn at all on this track. The x-mod is beat to crap too so it's pretty much worthless.

I had pretty much written them off but they are good for the kids to drive. I also read recently that the stock electronics can handle a stock micro rs4 motor. I'll have to give it a try.

buy an iwaver, it's the same as an xmod and you get the same xmod killing handling characteristics of the real z. my xmod will barely make it around my 50cm tile track

i-waver

I may buy another one of those just for chits and giggles. I had two before and you could tell the quality difference although after I added some kyosho parts it could run with the best of them. You can't beat the price to use it as a test bed. I just ordered some fet chips from the shop and some other parts and stuff from dingball. I will just have to settle on running what I have tomorrow.

Funny, I have 3 iwavers on the way. I'd love to get a couple of the gt40's.

GT40's

If you go to iwaver . com they have 6 different liverys of the gt40, including the old gulf orange and blue.

You can improve XMod steering by moving the battery holders to the forward position. They turn much better that way.

Stock XMod tires work about the best on my foam track.

For all those who want Mini-Z-like steering from their X-Mods, Buy a pack of five 3.3k Ohm resistors (1/2watt or 1/4) for 99 cents at the shack
