you can also use Kyosho hex nuts (which are black and are also 2mm, which are normally to be used in holding the side mirrors of Kyosho's 1/10 scale RC Cars). Those nuts can do the job, but I'd still go and purchase a set of proper wheelnuts for the car, unless you want to save cash.
When you purchase the 'original' Mini-Z locknut set (as the Mini-Z part, not as a hop-up) , you also get spare pinion gears and wheel bushes. As I only use bearings, the bushes are just surplus parts, but you can never have too many pinion gears!
The alloy locknuts are cheap enough and easy to find.
Some of the alloy locknut sets I've bought actually have 5 pieces in the bag, one spare. We all know how easy it is to lose one of those things in a deep pile carpet
If you buy genuine Kyosho alloy locknuts, they are kind enough to supply an extension for your wheel wrench that fits the smaller locknuts. If you purchase TopCAD or Eagle locknuts, you are not supplied a wrench. There's nothing more frustrating than having a part or parts and not having the right tools to fit it!
Well, here I go digging up an ancient topic. The thing is, I just bought some 2mm nuts yesterday, and they appear to be too small!!! Oh well, I guess I'll have to order some from here, whatever size they really are.
