Pouring out a little traction compound for the OGs!
This is another one of those "remember when" threads. I was reading a book and there was a character called the Big Kahuna, which for some abstract reason made me think of one of our favorite Forum members, The Thunderer, who hasn't been around in some time. I just wondered who else people have missed (wait - let's not turn this into another Andy-Z thread!) recently as friends come and go at the Forums.

Others that came to mind just now:
Butler
PITZON
PorscheGuy964
Has anyone heard from PG964 recently? Is he okay?

Where in the world...
Mini-Z wow, blasts from the past!
Well The_Thunderer is a man of the cloth, yes, he is a pastor in the Salvation Army.
Fred (his name) and I still chat from time to time, he has recently been transferred back to the mainland from Hawaaii.
Butler, the last I heard from him was when he sold me his TLP twin-turbo-II.
I still see him reading Forums bother here and at YM. He just doesn't Post any more.
PorscheGuy964, last I heard was when he had to go to hospital for a leg injury.

Ahh, I remember The Thunderer (Fred, Alfredo) rather well. He was a very awesome guy and I really enjoyed reading his posts and helping him out when I could. He is definitely missed. I never knew he was a pastor in the Salvation Army though, it certainly fits his character.

Yes I do.
I am quite touched. I need to dig my mini-z out again.
I haven't used it for ages. If I remember rightly I was having trouble with a dirty comm on the M motor last time.
I follow the YM forums because that 540 conversion is just awesome. Infact a follow both forums mainly to see the boundaries of small scale being pushed. I even look on tinyrc too.
I have been very busy with other things. I trying to setup my own business and work for myself, plus the wife, (forum name TDS) is very busy with her web work.
At the moment my 1:1 car is my main hobby. Even my gixer doesn't get used that much. I can see me getting back into mini-z towards the winter. My next diy project is the loft and being the largest room in our house, it will be done out with mini-z track in mind.

Buters back
Hey Butler!
Good to see you never left the hobby in spirit
I wish you all the best with your drive towards self-employment, it is the way to go. My wife is a self-employed engineer, she works as a team leader for an aircraft company that makes passenger jets. The (tax) benefits are amazing, as are the other perks.
Anyway, when you gonna debble in an Overland? These are fun machines.
Good too see you like the 540 Micro, but it's a little too fast for my blood. The T-MAXX 2.5 fulfils that need for speed.
I am working on a third Micro with a Graupner Speed 400 motor in it.
I am following DanMarx's 400 conversion with great interest. Can't wait until she's finished.
Good to see you back and we must hook up together sometime in the not too distant future

I would like to race somewhere, but the mini-z never appeared to take off in the uk. I guess thats I why I haven't used mine as much.
Danmarx is a micro guru. He has sent the micro into great directions, at speed too.
I noticed you appear to be into your maxx a lot.

Hehehe, yea another candidate "money pit" although I have this one under control - I think.
I'm avoiding alloy, as alloy T-Maxxes bend instead of flexing.
The T-MAXX 2.5 is almost perfect, albeit the steering servo, shock absorbers, lack of centre skid plate, bulkhead braces and the supplied 27MHz radio and receiver.
Needless to say, all these "issues" have been addressed and rectified quite cost effectively.
There isn't much more room for improvement, the MAXX is almost perfect out of the box. I rate them as a "must have" item.
Spares are reasonable too, but if you don't hit any immovable objects, spares should be minimal. I haven't broken a thing (yet!)
Only some fouled up glowplugs and an EZ-Start wire broken, nothing that the soldering iron couldn't resolve.
The T-MAXX is truly a fun truck, it turns heads at the local B&Q parking lot, especially when you overtake motorists adhering to the 20mph limit at speeds in excess of 40mph. Wicked!
