1/8" vs 1/16" balls in diff

I've noticed that GPM has come out with 2 style of ball diffs for the MR-02. One has the usual 1/8" balls (6 of them), while the other has 1/16" balls (12 of them).

Is there any advantage to the 1/16" balls? If so, what ?

i was looking for the same thing and realized that im not tryin to be a newb and used the search option. I came with this. You get what you pay for when it comes to quality. Also, the 1/16 compared to the 1/8 is just alot smoother because it has smaller diff balls. Then when it comes time to adjust the collar on the diff the results are alot more noticable. (the adjustment function is better on 1/16)

Actually the larger 1/8" ball should feel smoother. The reason that the 1/16" diff feels smoother is because there are more balls to distribute the load, not because the balls are smaller. One trick we used to do in stock class was to run half the number of balls in a 10/12 ball diff to make it lighter. The wear would increase significantly.

I don't get it
why do you say actually the 1/8 should feel smoother and then say the reason the 1/16 is smoother?
which do you think is better cause i just bought the 1/8 and how do you think i should adjust it?
thanks

The reason behind the 1:16 diff is to spread the load more evenly around the diff without increasing the overall weight.

The 1:16th will feel a lot smoother because the load is spread more evenly. The disadvantage however will be wear rate on the balls and plates. Due to the smaller surface contact area the balls will pit faster and wear grooves in the plates a lot faster also. This will be especially enhanced if using ceramic or titanium balls (They are plate eaters as we discovered from making our own ball diffs for 200mm Nitro cars).
