well, seeing how i can see the white house from my office window, i have a front row seat to alot of the mess.
last night there was a very impressive fireworks show. i wish i had snapped some shots but i forgot about it.
so i was trying to get some work done and one of the larger protest marches of the day decides to run down 16th street infront of my building... lots of noise, comotion and some very colorful signage. it must have been about 10 blocks + long...
other than that, it's not much different from when the imf etc, hold conferences... lots of police, marines, blockades, etc. doens't really give you a warm and fuzzy feeling to exist the metro station and see marines/humvee's outside, but that's just me.
the merto ride in this morning was absolutley horrible as well. they were more like cattle cars than anything else. full to the brim with southern/midwestern replublicans and or young liberal protestors. either way it made it hell for the average joe like myself that still had to get to work.
the news and govt. basically tells everyone that if they don't have to drive into town today, don't.... so much of the city has been blocked off it's pointless to drive unless you really have to. i' mlucky in that i choose to help the environment and support/use public transportation. it was still a mess though.
traffic around here is 3rd worst nationally i think?
Between the tourist and bad drivers, those DC traffic circles don't help much. Here it's the strip that can be a nightmare though some of the worst intersections in the nation are located here and they are not even on the strip--I feel like a "minority" driver in this town sometimes surrounding by out-of-state drivers even on the side streets. Then there are all the "retired" drivers from other states as well.
naturally you can understand that the typical dc resident has a natural loathing of the media as most do. they (media) only report what they think other want etc, etc, etc. and conviently ignore whats going on in most of the rest of the city. after all, this is THE political city. my part of town was very busy but i'm not surrounded by govt. office buildings either. there has been constant traffic in and around the part i work in. i get to see presendential motorcades on a daily basis as well as many other high ups drive by with their block long security caravans.
there were indeed a large number of people in fur coats on the metro though. many sourthern accents as well

I'd probably barf a lot of I had to put up with that on a daily basis. It was bad enough seeing that poor broken down Ferrari on the side of the freeway today.
Arch2b, Do me a favor go over to your window and give the protesters the finger for me. And feel free to shout out some obscenities to them.
