SAE Mini Formula Racing, My school is building a car to race (Not RC)

Macomb Community College in Michigan, where I am taking some Engineering, CNC, CAD, CAM, and other classes, is going to attempt to design and build a car for an upcomming SAE mini formula race. Not likely the very next one, since it will take time to build the car, but eventually we will get it on the track. It only started yesterday, so we have a LONG way to go before it son the track. I think we will be the first community college to do it, the rest are a few hundred universities that particpate, and I believe its INTERNATIONAL, but I am not sure if the school will flip the bill for us to go overseas to race, I was told they would but who knows .

It has to be all student run, the faculty can only educate and not really help, so if anyone local wants to join in, enroll in the school now . We also plan to eventually do a dirt buggy, and fuel cell/electric racer in the next few years.

No web site up yet, I am in charge of that, what I get for being the only computer-web person in the group... I may also possibly wind up being the treasurer/purchaser if no one else does it.

We will also be needing a trailer... if anyone has a large covered trailer to donate/sell cheap, something that can be painted with graphics and logos.

We are also a long way off from having enough funds, If anyone has any ideas of were I can get sponsor support (Mini-Z? ) or possibly donated tires and materials... please let me know.

This might put a damper on my plans to get back into Mini-Z racing... since well this is bigger and better . Not to mention my MiX will definatly be put on the back burner as I help work on the design for this car instead .

Awesome Drac! Good luck with FSAE and Mini Baja! Those are definitely a lot of fun. I was an EE in college, and I was always jealous of the ME's that got to play with the Mini Baja competition. I would hang around and "help" a little though. I did get to play with the solar powered race cars which had arguably a lot more technology and budget in them. Just not as fun!
