per our discussion yesterday, i think testing the waters with a dc points series race day would be a good warm up to maybe them hosting the dc lemans race event.

i am ok with doing the next dg gtg there for mar. 10th. i would suggest however that each of us with a 50cm track bring atleast 1 wide l. this way i do not have to load, unload, load and unload a trauck full of track that day. if a couple people bring 1 track we should end up with plenty to use. we will have to work out how to mark our tracks.

i am going to try to call courtney this afternoon. typically, i never seem to haev time for phone calls so contacting courtney may be difficult for me. i spend alot of time infornt of the pc so email is easy, phones are not

it would be awsome if we could get courtney to post here but thats asking alot. spoon has offered to call and ccson may have the local angle. should we select a point man for this who can make calls if necessary and keep up the discussion here?

I have no problem bringing an L. It should be interesting to see if the traction is similar on the different tracks.

As far as marking, I have my track apart for a thorough cleaning, I will probably paint the tops of the screw connectors to ID my tracks. I may also use a silver marker on the slick side of the tile for ID.

I guess between me arch and ccson we should be able to get in touch with this guy. We should just make sure we are all on the same page with each other so we don't seem disorganized. I'll hold off on calling him until I hear from Arch.

This sounds like a great idea. Does this mean that Hobby Works is going to carry Mini-Z's and parts?

ask him if he has an email address. let him know you are part of our club and that ccson had mentioned if it comes up. check out the place and let us know how it looks, what the owner is like and what kind of space and ammenities are available. how about parking?

I stopped by Hobby Works for a little bit tonight. I had my kids with me so I couldn't stay that long. Courtney wasn't in. He'll be in on THursday. The store is pretty big. They have a lot of models and supplies like paint, etc, trains, slot cars, and a growing RC section. I talked with one of the guys who works there and he told me that they were probably going to start stocking mini-z's in the summer and set up a track too.

thanks for checking the place out.

the next time someone is in that area and stopping by, could they ask the owner if he has an email address that i can reach him at? i'm never around a phone during business hours or have a phone to make personal calls during those hours.

per our discussion, we would like to try our next dc points series races there to get a feel for how this will work. it could be a good opportunity for both them and us.

If we can't get an email address by Thursday, I can give him a call.

They do have a big parking lot there, but it seems that it is usually pretty packed. They do actually have a pretty good size area inside the mall in front of the movie theatre that you could possibly set up a track.

Arch, what are the dimensions of the area that we use to race? I guess we'll have to take pit space into account also.

Short List

I am just compiling a short list of questions I will have for the Hobby Works guy. Some of them are longer term some short term. Feel free to add to these or post your thoughts.

Short Term
1) Is he willing to let us setup and try out the space March 10?
2) How much space does he have
3) Does he have pit tables?
4) ...electricity

Longer Term
The longer term questions have to do with how he sees the whole operation running if he wants to hold his own races. Will he get a track and timer system? Does he expect us to run it? Will there be entry/track fees?

Obviously we have to see if this will be a good fit for our group before we can start to look into the longer term questions. I figure we'll do a trial run in March and go from there.

Any thoughts?

Alternate location

I know its far fetch idea and not going to happen but I talked to the guy who runs the paintball hobby shop here in fredericksburg and he would like to host the event if fairfax hobby shop doesn't go through. I know its not a great spot to do this but its a back up if nothing else falls through. He is planning to carry more rc stuff including mini z's and is wanting to set up a track in the back room with pit tables and all. Just a thought.

So I spoke to Courtney last night. He seems very open to the idea. It's really hard to convey everything over the phone but eventually he just asked me "what do you need from me?" and I basically said for now, nothing but space.

I told him we have a steady group of guys that races and we are planning on doing a big event in June and we would like to check out the venue March 10. I told him that we need about 20'x20' (just guessing here) with space for the drivers to stand. It sounds like he has plenty of space but he just has to make sure that he is not hosting a Pokemon tournament that day.

He usually does Pokemon on Saturdays and he should have enough space to accomidate everyone as long as it's not a tournament day.

For the guys that have been there, does it look like plenty of space? Would anyone be able to stop by and take some pictures and post them up?

Also, in terms of email. He seemed to think that he had my email address already. I can only assume someone else emailed the warehouse and he thinks that was me. It doesn't sound like he gets to sit in front of a computer very much. Did someone else email him already.

OH, one more thing. I think that he would like for one of us to come up there and talk to him about it but he's only there M Th F. I told him that I was in Charlottesville but we have a few guys that are closer. Maybe we can coordinate and try to get someone up there to talk to him in the next week or so. Maybe just someone that can look at the space, give him and idea of where we would setup, where we could put the pit tables, lap counter etc. Maybe also give him an idea of the races that we run (OLPS and out own series). I don't know that I really got that across.

It's really hard to establish any kind of connection over the phone. I think it will be a fine way to communicate once we meet him but we need some face time first.

thanks for calling him spoon.

yes, i emailed the main contact address asking to for contact information for courtney. i never got a reply. as i expected, he is around a computer about as much as i am around a phone.

yes, i think a face to face is needed as well simply because phone and email conversations do not always convey clearly the plans, needs and desires. i will likley never be available monday thru friday so we will have to appoint a representative for intiial contacts. i would like to arrange a weekend meeting at some point though but i assume this won't be necessary until after our initial test run when we discuss what next.

lets chat with the other va guys to see who would be able to meet with him intially or if we can schedule a weekend meeting? i'm available this weekend for example.

it seems he may have some reading to do really to learn what hfay is and about and i'm sure he's familiar with club racing.
