Question about MR02 compared to MR01 answer please

Ok, im kind of new to the Mini-Z game but not to Xmods, now that I have tinkered with some Xmods I decided to step up to Z's. For info, here we race on a carpet track with MR02's and MR01's racing and they fit into 1 category at my hobby shop so they race both types at the same time. I have messed with an MR02 and I know much more then a newcomer would know now, but is the MR01 deffinately capable of hanging with the MR02's in a race performance wise? I know MR02's are supposed to be better because they are newer and supposedly have a better set up but are they still capable of racing and competing with MR02's? Thanks in advance.
MR02 with some mods on it...
Also, I am in the state of north carolina.

I don't own either, but I can tell you that a MR-01 could hang with a MR-02 if it's properly tuned, but you're better off just getting the 02. There's just as much aftermarket support, the bodies fit it, and the low cg makes it less prone to rolling compared to the 01.

Hope this helped a little.

While the MR02 may be a good starter car, I think the MR01 or even the MR015 cars are quite formitable in the right hands. Far as outright speed they are all about the same stock wise. Well the MR02 and MR015 are both very much the same car, with just battery arangement and front track width being the only difference here. The only issue with the MR01 is it's an older chassis, the design is crude next to the newer cars. If anything that may limit the 01's is the upgrade parts that can be found nowdays. With the right driving skills the 01's can take the others to school on the track.

I agree with HammerZ, the MR-01 is quite a capbable car. you need to tune it correctly. this is where it can be a little more difficult. the parts are harder to find, but not impossible to find.

the MR-01 doesn't have a servo saver so selection of the correct body is key, you don't want to have to keep changing servo gears.

the NSX is a good body for the MR-01, so are the skylines GTR cars. basically you want a body the sets the front wheels in from the fenders to protect them from taking a shot from another car or an impact on the rails.

Towards the beginning of the 3rd HFAY racing season, my MR-02 died on me.. At the time, the only car I had left to run was a five year old MR-01 that I got from a local hobby shop for 10 bucks that was used as a demo car for the store.. It was in decent shape but it had been used a lot before I got my hands on it.. I put on a soft Kyosho H-plate, 20 degree Kyosho tires {front and rear} and yellow Kyosho springs and it handled almost as good {in my opinion} as my Mr-02.. The trick for getting the MR-01 to handle was to use a body with a wide wheelbase.. I tried using a Advan Porsche body at first and it traction-rolled all over the place.. So I switched to a Ferrari 360 Modena body and that fixed the problem.. The traction rolling wasn't a problem anymore and the handling was much better...

Overall. I agree with what others said on here about the MR-01.. When it's properly tuned, and in the hands of the right driver, it can still compete w/the MR-015 and the MR-02.. The only thing you have to worry about with the MR-01 is finding parts for it if it breaks...
