I saw some brushless motors that were being discussed as comparable to PN (I think the suggestion was that they were in fact the same), sold under the name Surpass. I took a flyer and ordered two from AliExpress, a 5500 and a 7500. They were around $16 each with free shipping.
After two sessions with each motor, I'd say they work great, very good bang for the buck. The motor cans look very similar/same as PN motors. Subjectively, my PN motors feel smoother when you spin the armature with your fingers, but I can't tell the difference on the track. My PN 5500kv V3 has been my favorite motor for a while now, and I found these to be very comparable.
I'm running the 7500 in a C9 LM chassis with 9/54 gearing, and the 5500 in a 98mm Ferrari 458 with 10/53 gearing.
Ive bought the entire range and compared them side by side with my PN range of BL motors. Visibly similar both inside and out to my V2 lineup they perform almost exactly the same.
As Superfly noted, I tend to run them with a bit less neutral brake/drag brake on the ICS settings (interested to see if they have a break in period).
