I couldn't think of a better place to put this. Mods, if it fits somewhere else please relocate.
I am trying to figure out how to assign point for our local series. On any given day we will have 4-8 racers. FIA has a scale for assigning points to the top 8 racers.
I think this scale would work for our series but I have a couple of questions.
What happens when we have less than 8 racers? Let's say we have 4...Do we assign 10-8-6-5 points or 4-3-2-1 points?
Personally I think less points makes sense because you didn't have to beat as many people and it doesn't create a huge point gap if you have a small crowd. Basically 3 guys could show up at a GTG and run away with the series.
I was thinking of changing the points structure since we are only going to have 4-8 racers. The Arizona GTG used a modified FIA scale for their series, since they only had 6 racers.
Most of the point series events i participated in gave points to the top qaulifier. TQ gets an extra point. I think the lower number system is best. Also might want to think about trowouts, so more of our members can participate. Maybe best 6 of 8
If we have 8 racers for example and we break into an A main and a B Main, how does the scoring work? Do the A main racers get places 1 through 4 and B Main racers get 5-8?
Also, I seem to remember reading something where B main winners get bumped into the A main.
If we can get this all squared away, it might be nice for the FAQ.
At the track I race at, 1st A main gets 100 points, then -1 point for each position behind that. 1st B main gets -1 point from last A main and so forth. We usually run A/B/C and occasionally D mains as well as F1 and Modified classes.
I should speak to the track coordinator about adding 1pt to each main TQ. That sounds like a good idea
Occasionally you will have the B main winner bump up to the A, we dont do this
