My GPM Mini-T

Here's my latest project. A Mini-T built from GPM parts alone. I have yet to add the electronics (just the Li battery in the pic). Some Team Losi parts may be needed to complete the project.

Thanks for looking.

Actually I collect Mini-Zs but most of them in my collection are just stock so there's nothing very interesting to show

That is one pretty chassis you have there, makes me want to start a new project. Mind if I ask how much invested so far?

Dude, that rocks! Makes me want to follow suit. Looks great! I'd be interested in a full spec sheet details what parts you needed, and a cost breakdown. What else is needed, or is it ready to roll?

Erm.. not....

CF is superior to alloy in strength and weight.. plus it looks better, if lio wanted an alloy chassis, he would have fitted one

Nice Mini-T there lio. Do you ever run it at all?

Hi all,

Thanks for the compliments Actually I copied the idea from a local GPM shop where they displayed many RC models fully hopped up with GPM parts. The Mini-T looked the best so I decided to assemble my own.

The complete list of GPM parts used in the chassis is as below. All are silver alloy except where noted.

SMT003F/L Front Bumper Large Size (80mm Wide) 1 Piece
SMT003R Rear Motor Guard Protector 1 Piece
SMT008 Front Lower Pivot Block Set 1 Piece
SMT010 Rear Lower Pivot Block Set 1 Piece
SMT012A Front Upper Cap For Steering 1 Piece
SMT012B Front Lower Brace For Steering 1 Piece
SMT013 Rear Gear Box 1 Pair
SMT014 Servo Upper Kick Plate 1 Piece
SMT019 Front Steering C-Hub With Steel Pins 1 Pair
SMT021/T Front Knuckle Arm + Titanium Wheel Shaft 1 Pair
SMT022 Rear Hub 1 Pair
SMT028 Front Damper Plate 1 Piece
SMT030 Rear Damper Mount 1 Set
SMT032 Main Gear Cover 1 Piece
SMT0527F Front 3D Sinkage Rims (5 Poles) 1 Pair
SMT0527R Rear 3D Dented Rims (5 Poles) 1 Pair
SMT055 Front Lower Arm 1 Pair
SMT056 Rear Lower Arm 1 Pair
SMT201F Front Body Post 1 Pair
SMT355 Front Adjustable Spring Damper (55mm) 1 Pair
SMT360 Rear Adjustable Spring Damper (60mm) 1 Pair
SMTBEARING Bearing Full Set (4X8X3) 8 Pieces
GSMT1016FS/B Graphite Chassis (w Servo Mount/Saver and Antenna Mount) 1 Set
GSMT009 Graphite Front + Rear Lower Arm Lock Mount Plate 2 Pieces
TDSMT100A/II Titanium + Delrin Ball Differential With Bearing 1 Set
TSMT242 Titanium Rear Universal Swing Shaft (42mm) 1 Pair
SMT048 Front Steering Assembly 3 Pieces With Graphite Plate 1 Set
SMT018 Motor Heat Sink Plate 1 Piece
TSMT160 Titanium Complete Tie Rod With Ball Ends 7 Pieces
GSMT049 Graphite Steering Plate With Screws 1 Piece

The tires are from Pro-line instead.

The above costed me about USD330 in total. A few original Mini-T parts (mainly for the gear) are also needed to complete the chassis.

There're no instructions for the GPM parts so I made reference to a "real" Mini-T for assembly. The exploded view diagram from the kit is useful.

I have yet to add the electronics (other than the 2 cell LiPoly already installed) so I have not run the car yet. I hope some good electronics could compensate for the heavy weight, though the car is really meant for the look rather than speed. Any recommendations for the electronics are most welcome !

Lio,

If you are concerned about the weight, a good brushless motor would work well.
I recommend a Mamba25 6800 system.
If you're looking for a good site on Micros, try Mini-ZRacer.com's sister site, YourMicro.com
There is lots of information on Mini-T's and other Micro scale RCs on this site and you will find lots of information on brushless systems

Go with brushless, its very fast. There worth the money you will spend the same or a little more if you went with brushed motors.

Hi,

I have finally completed the project with my very limited spare time. Below is the final recipe for my GPM Mini-T, including electronics. I have refined the look of the chassis using some non-GPM parts such that the car is only silver and black (except the electronics). A photo is attached.

Graphite Main Chassis 1 Set GSMT1016FS/B
Alloy Front Bumper Large Size (80mm Wide) 1 Piece SMT003F/L

Alloy Front Lower Pivot Block Set 1 Piece SMT008
Alloy Rear Lower Pivot Block Set 1 Piece SMT010
Alloy Front Upper Cap For Steering 1 Piece SMT012A
Alloy Front Lower Brace For Steering 1 Piece SMT012B
Alloy Rear Gear Box 1 Pair SMT013
Alloy Servo Upper Kick Plate 1 Piece SMT014
Alloy Main Gear Adapter 2 Pieces SMT015
Alloy Motor Heat Sink Plate 1 Piece SMT018
Alloy Front Steering C-Hub With Steel Pins 1 Pair SMT019

Titanium Main Gear (61T) 1 Piece TSMT061T
Titanium Complete Hinge Pins 5 Pairs TSMT101
Titanium Rear Universal Swing Shaft (42mm) 1 Pair TSMT242
Titanium + Delrin Ball Differential With Bearing 1 Set TDSMT100A/II
Bearing Full Set (4X8X3) 8 Pieces SMTBEARING

Miscellaneous
Dubro Racing Antenna Tube with Cap (Black) 2340
BRP Mini-T Mini Heavy Hitter body clips
Trinity Mini-T Front Spring Set (Soft, Medium, Hard) TRI34068
Trinity Mini-T Rear Spring Set (Soft, Medium, Hard) TRI34069
4 X Lunsford Mini-T Titanium Ball Studs 7181
Lunsford Mini-T Differential Cover & Fat Boy Motor Screw Kit 7949

For the motor, I've in fact bought the Castle Creations brushless system for the car. The green motor looks awesome by itself, but does not match the colour of the chassis so I finally decided to use the Peak Racing motor instead. It's slower but is good enough for my need (running indoor in a small living room).

I am now looking for a custom painted body to fit the car to really finish the project.

Thanks for looking

Hi,

Now I have attached a Baja body The holes have not yet been drilled.

Credit of the custom paint work goes to Aaron Kilian of RCXTC [http://www.rcxtc.com/]. I sent Aaron the pic of the chassis and he got me this desgin. Both the look and workmanship are excellent in my opinion. I am so satisfied that I have ordered another body from him for my XRay M18.

Thanks for looking!
