I have a new mr 02ex and a giro z transponder from pn. The car is on its 3rd transponder, suddenly while racing it will just quit registering. When I test it on another car the transponder does not work. This has happened 3 times now.
Any Help?
Make sure the IR LED is not hitting the body. If it is, it can break the LED internally or crack the solder joints/PCB pads.
Inspect the solder joints closely. They may just need to be touched up if they are cracked.

thanks for the response. I always test without body first
It's the putting on the body that might be the issue. If the LED on the top is crushed down it can break. That may explain why moving it into another car has prevented it from working.
I didn't mean the body was blocking the signal.
If the body or window physically touches the IR LED, it can damage it. Then it won't work without the body or in another car as you have stated.

After taking a closer look at where the transponder mounts I think there is a good chance that the body did damage the laser.
Can I get a new laser if so what is the right one and does anyone repair them?
Thanks
Don
TRP has a listing for them, but no stock and no actual component part number.
I was doing some parts orders today and I added a few pieces of what looked closest. I'll let you know in a few days when they arrive how close they are and we'll go from there.
Are you in the USA?

It is physically identical and the 940nm output is typical for the type of receiver they are using.
I replaced one and bench tested it, seems to work fine.
It's an easy fix, even with modest soldering skills.
Just be sure to orient it properly, it won't work backwards.
