AZGT Championship III
Here it is, the 'final' version of the AZGT Season III Sporting Regulations. (The “2007” thread will still be updated with the final Season II info)
Highlights include:
1. The really cool Competition Ballast rule is removed.
2. Points expanded to the current FIA 1st-8th place scale to accommodate our growing field of drivers.
3. Initial grid-for-qualifying in Le Mans events is changed to use lap times from Practice. This is to better handle splitting into Heats, again for our growing driver field.
5. Changed the Caution rule to a 'Gentleman's Agreement'.
6. Exempted 'Approved Motors' from the blown FET disqualification rule.
7. Various final tidying up of wording.
The first race of Season III is projected for February 24th, depending on everyone's schedules. Details for the final Season II race on January 27th will be posted shortly in the “2007” thread.

***March AZGT Schedule***
And so it begins. The sun rises on a new day and the promise of victory in a new season glows on the horizon, beckoning all to the chase. Last season 13 drivers scored points in pursuit of that horizon. There were many winners, but only one Champion stood in the bright noon of ultimate victory.
This season many veterans of campaigns past will be back, and some new faces will join the fight. Faster motors, faster cars, and faster drivers will take to the field of battle, charging ever harder for the win.
Better get chasing that horizon, the AZGT Championship Season III starts now.
Having won the final race of Season II, Brad has designed the first track of Season III. The Laveen Circuit will see the Sprint race of Week #1. CW and CCW races in three stages each. Two 5min and one 10min.
I made a few small final adjustments to the Sporting Regulations based on input from the drivers. Key differences are:
1. Sprint A Qualifying is 10 laps instead of 5.
2. Le Mans Round 3 Qualifying is 10 laps instead of 20, and the top three qualifiers score points (4, 2, 1).
3. Simple maintenance (oil, tighten screw, etc) is permitted after Qualifying, but must be done at Parc Ferme.
4. In addition to normal Scruitineering, three cars will be randomly selected for FET inspection.
The new edition is attached below.
The AZGT Championship
Week 1: Sprint Race
The Desert Dash at the Laveen Circuit
Saturday, March 17th
Don Jackson Enterprises / Phoenix Porsche
1931 W. North Ln. (19th Ave and Peoria)
(Note: I moved 30min from Open Session over to 1st Practice so there's a little more practice and tune time. Helps me too, so I can manage the event and get a little wrench time on my own car. Remember these times are not gospel and will drift a little as need arise).
Open Session
10:00-11:00 Track Setup and Open Testing
CW Sprint
11:00-12:00 Practice CW Sprint
12:00-12:30 Qualifying CW Sprint
12:30-1:00 A/B/Main CW Sprint
CCW Sprint
1:00-2:00 Practice CCW Sprint
2:00-2:30 Qualifying CCW Sprint
2:30-3:00 A/B/Main CCW Sprint
Open Session
3:00-3:30 Fun Runs (run what ‘ya brung!)
3:30-4:00 Tear Down and Cleanup
Hope to see you all there!

FunFunFun
Track looks really fast and needs that 3 tile straight or it might just be a crash fest with most running 45 turn for the 1st time.
P.S. Obviously the track is not the issue just thinking of how not to have broken cars or dreams!!!!!

It looks like fun, but watch out for the crashes..
Since we have never had more than 10-11 drivers, we all run together. It could get really tight with a crash in the single wide section.. I see the caution rule getting abused..
It shoud be really interesting to see everyone run with the big motors for the first time on a fast track with a long narrow section.. I am gonna bring both cars just incase I need a new ride for the CC direction. :}
I hope Will knows what he is getting into.. It should be a really great raceday with six true races for points..

Due to so many drivers being out of town in April, the OLPS on the 7th will be our only official race of the month. We will resume a normal schedule in May.
Bye Bye is planning to be out our way tentatively on May 5th, so that will likely be our OLPS day. The AZGT would then fall on the 19th.
We will try a dry run of the F1 event after the AZGT wraps up for the day.
This will be a Sprint day, and schedules are very tight. Because it actually takes longer than 5min between rounds (the Race Marshal has to sort everyone out and get 5min to work on his car), this will tend to be a 3:15-3:30ish finish.
We'll try the 10min F1 practice thing. Practice will double as Qualifying, grid based on best single lap. Then run around a 60-ish lap race.
We're still left with the dilemma of how to attach the AMB transponders to the F1's. I have an idea, but have to unpack my car and work it out. I think we can feed the wires out through the upper intake and Velcro the transponder to the driver.
Note: DJ will be out of town on the 5th, so we'll have to arrange a make-up day for him to get his OLPS points. Setting up before the AZGT to run the 8min would make the most sense.

May 3,4, and 5th
I have a QSAC National Event at Speedworld on that Saturday.. Joe and I will both be busy in the scoring trailer..
I am open the rest of the month and would love to race againt Bye Bye. Could we hold the event on Sunday, my event will then be over.. Maybe we could just have a fun event when he is here?
Hood
Otherwise, I guess Joe, DJ and I can run a makeup day in the garage..

That's too many people out for May 5th. Maybe Sunday if we have to. This may just be a Fun Run in my garage at this rate. It's still early, we'll know more when ByeBye know exactly what day he'll be through Phoenix.

***May AZGT Schedule***
After our long break we are back to AZGT series racing with the Round 2 Sprint event.
Last season's third place finisher has started Season III in the top spot with 28 points, but Hood is close behind with 24. With a maximum gain of 36 points available, the leader board could look very different by the end of this race.
Brad scored the most wins of Round 1 and so won the track design honors for Round 2. The Scottsdale Keyhole circuit will see the Sprint race of Week #2.
CW and CCW races in three stages each: Two 5min and one 10min. Afterward we will conduct a test run for an F1 Series to see if it can be run after the AZGT on a regular basis. Remember to have your F1's wired for the AMB transponders.
For this test session, use the AZGT rules for the F1's. Ignore weight limits for now. We will run 10min practice followed by a 100 lap race (about 1/4 of a full scale race distance at 1:24 scale)

Guys, just a little help here ...
Me and a couple of friends are trying to start a Mini-Z class, and we are buying RCP Track ... here a big question, its the Mini-96 too small for racing mini-Z's ?, would be better if we start with a WIDE-L ?
thanks guys,
Pat

The mini-96 is the way togo if it's just gonna be 2 of ya dicing it at a time cuz you get so many more layout possibilities for the same price as 1 wide L. How ever if you plan to run 3 or more then going with the wide Ls is the way to go, plus you can then participate in the OLPS/HFAY races.

Hey all,
I live in Chandler and may try to make it to this weekend's race. If I can get away. How many people normally attend? Do you know of any racers in the East Valley? I have a couple of F1's and a few other cars, but I am mostly a collector and usually race with my 8 yr old son for fun.
Also what's the age of the youngest member or person that normally attends/races?
Thanks,
Troy

We welcome new members..
Troy,
Usually our youngest racer is 30+. We do have a father and son team that come when they can.
We are hoping to add the F1s to our AZGT events. Currently we have Four of them that normally show. We usually have 8-10 people for our AZGT races.
Bill and Dink live in Chandler. I live in North Phoenix, but on the East side. Joe lives at 7th Street, so that is still East of Central.
Let us know if you have any questions, or need anything for your cars.
Robin Young
