Michelin Mercedes Sauber C9
New project completed, Michelin Mercedes Sauber C9
Materials:
Kyosho Sauber C9 unpainted body
Krylon Fusion Patriotic Blue
Tamiya flat black
Tamiya Flat Red
Tamiya flat yellow
Tamiya clear yellow
Testors Steel
For this one, I decided to try my hand at weathering. Since I race all my painted bodies, why not start off with a worn and raced look that will age well over time. I got all the base paint down then multiple rounds of dry brushing black and silver to get it to the point i'm happy with it.
I'm not sure how well the photos turn out but it looks how I imagined it would in hand.

Really nice, especially the rear end / undercarriage area and the exhaust ports on the side. What kind of paint are you dry brushing with, the Tamiya? what kind of brush?

I typically use Tamiya paints but ran out of silver and had to use Testors Steel. Testors Aluminum isn’t bad either. The rest is Kyrlon base and Tamiya’s.
I use a 0 brush and cut the end flat or chisel point. Just soak up some paint, tab it off on scrap piece of cardboard and brush it on and go back to the cardboard as needed. I don’t recall the brand of brush but good brushes are worthwhile. I just buy them occasionally at any art store. I don’t like the fine point brushes and prefer to work with narrow flats.
At some point I’m going to try reds and browns for dirt/rust but didn’t want to get overly ambitious.

Nice, seems we used same decals. I used the racing blue, seems closer to real car color. And I 3D-printed the spoiler, to be more accurate too.

I'm more concerned with making it visible on the track than realism of paint match thus the brighter shade blue. I'm not so concerned with accuracy of tribute cars as I tend to make slight tweaks to my liking anyway (yellow panel at rear right tail light, a variation on the AEG C9). The new trick I added to this one was slight weathering. It's not meant to be a derelict so it's subtle. I don't make shelf queens so wanted this one to start off a bit rough around the edges.
The nice thing about this sticker set from Pattos is there is enough for two cars so I make another later, although will likely be an entire paint color change from blue.
One day I'll work up to a 'dirty' car...
Nice job btw

I did notice the weathering effects, and really liked it.

nice job guys...
i thought arch's car looked a bit dirty.... until i read "weathered look" then i thought wow... pretty cool... lol...
although oliver had the same type of decals, they looked a bit big (i suspect they are tamiya 1/24 scale?)... compared to arch's decals... were they scaled down to 1/27 scale? i heard patto's can scale down decals... haven't tried to order a set yet... good enough for another car too? how much do they go for these days?
thanks for any reply...

I always ask for them to be scaled to 1/27. Yes, he will scale them as desired and may impact price if you larger. I don’t get an invoice with each set cost, I just get a bill and pay it as it’s always reasonable for what i’m Requesting. I never order less than 2-3 sets at a time. I would guess they come out to $20-30 per set depending on the set, customization, scale, etc. cost of decals, paint and white body typically averages out to be about $40-50, not including time, if you have a value to assign to time. Well worth it in my opinion to get something a bit more personal.

Thanks for the info. Also like the small details, different colored rear side mirrors... highlighted rear back brake light... different shade of blue also cool as it will be more visible on the track...
