How to strip the paint
Hi Guys,
What can be used to strip off the paint off the firelap body?
I've ruined 1 bodyshell by using too much acetone and causing it melt and it looks milky.
I want to run my car with a see through (clear) bodyshell
Thanks!

I've heard model cars guys talk about using transmission fluid I think, not sure how that would affect a clear body????

by using acetone, the black paint seems to go off fast but the red color (in my case a red enzo) need much more to take off the paint.
but acetone is a Corrosive substance and it will dull the plastic.
U can see how clear the windsheild is by swaping it with a little dash of acetone. But when a little too much applied the plastic tends to look milky.
i've read about the castrol super degreeser. will it eat up plastic?

I have used brake fluid. it works great on paints. it didn't work on the Kyosho autoscale paints.
the Castrol Degreaser won't work on the Kyosho autoscale paints either.
I don't know that the Iwaver paints are the same type or quality though.

Glosscoat is not usual clear enamel, in fact it is a clear plastic film applied hot over the paint. The paint is taken in sandwich between the base plastic of the body and the plastic glosscoat this is why it is impossible to strip it.
I-wavers have normal paint on them with no clear coat. Any paint remover should work. The windows are also tinted with semi-clear paint. The I-waver bodies are clear white. Oh, and acetone melts plastic, leave your body 5 hours in it and you will have some kind of soft paste

soak it in a plastic conainer with the brake fluid in it. it will strip the paint and it won't harm the plastic.
I just meant to say that nothing will strip the autoscale paint but the Iwaver paints are not the same.

seems interesting, I'm looking forward to the results.
It would be fairly cool to see a clear S7 or Ford GT.

Firelap should consider selling unpainted "clear bodies" for those who want to paint themselves. I would paint on the inside just like larger scale lexan bodies. If you consider this, including masks for the windows would be great. Just an idea!

I think the bodies are too thick to paint from beneath and look right.
Unpainted would still be a nice option as Id like some color choices that arent available

haha guess what, my lil project went wrong...the brake fluid does remove the paint but dulls the plastic...u can see it in the attachment.
i do think firelap should sell the clear body, someone sure want to paint according to their taste.
but for me, i want to run the car see through so that i can see all the bling in my car

ub0211042,
I'm very sorry that it turns out this way, however it does kinda looks like it's a white body now...(even though it not as smooth)
I would agree that sell a pure clear/white body might be the next best thing to come, I'll talk with the factory to look into this.

it's ok, at least we all know what the brake oil can do the plastic haha...
Fangel, i really hope they can sell the pure clear body and i don't mind buying at a normal price (painted ones)
i've asked t o y e a s t about this but unfortunately they say cannot.
