Duratrax bearing set tip
For anyone that has the duratrax bearing set that is said to be too wide, there's something I figured out a while back. I had trouble getting the wheelnuts only on the front (stock & aftermarket) to stay on the axle shaft. The answer is to turn them around and put them on backwards (both stock & aftermarket again). I don't know about all the aftermarket wheelnuts, but the ones I have, have the little plastic lock ring inside so it "locks" on the threads. The bearings really are too wide in front and when I went to put my stock nuts on, before I had the aftermarket ones, not enough threads would catch the axle to do any good.
So, yeah, pull those jokers off there, flip em around, and put em back on if you already haven't figured that out.
Or you could just buy the good set from the shop

The RCRM bearings fit GREAT! So good in fact that I had to take a set off of one of my cars to sell to a customer today. The one downside is that they have the wrong number of bearings. You need 5 of the small bearings and 2 of the large bearings. The RCRM kit has 4 small bearings and 3 large bearings. I just buy 2 kits and have spares! =)

ruf,
Why 5 small and 2 large bearings?
I thought there was no need to replace the small bushing on the rare axle, but there are 3 large ones to be replaced...
Or did I replaced the wrong bearings...

Joe, I'm really confused by your 5/2 statement; there are 4 for the front wheels and 3 for the rear axle; where are you putting yours?!

LoL I agree I think we all got a bit confused with the 5/2 statement. When you get the Duratrax bearings 3 big and 4 small the 4 small go the front wheels and the three big ones go in the back, that leaves only one plastic bushing on the car. That would be the rear drivers side tire because the axle doesnt free spin in that tire so there is no need to replace that bearing. Its just there for a spacer.

Never mind. I see what you're saying. I use bearings EVERYWHERE!!!
Also I'm using the ball diff so it already comes with one of those large rear bearings.

My tip for the DuraTrax bearings is simple: Don't buy them!
I have a set of the kyosho bearings from Japan, and they are the best! I also have a couple sets from HK, and they are really good too! My duratrax never see the light of day any more.

I agree DO NOT BUY the Duratrax bearings. the 4 small bears I got in my set have so much slop between the bearing and the axel it would be like not having any bearing/bushing at all. the 4 small did how ever fit perfect on the rear axel. where they are now. I use the "rear" bearings on the front inside and they fit cause they wouldn't fit over the rear axel. I have bushing on the outside of the front wheels. I know I will get tons of feedback on this set up and that I did something wrong but I know what I have and they just don't coiside with how they should work. I had 4 small 2 med. 1 large maybe they were not designed for the racer or something but no matter they work as I have them set. the front wheels turn more smoothly then before now to find an H plate to replace my broken one and I can test the car and see how it handles. I will report back here what happens who knows I might go back to the bushings until I get a way to order real parts online. well enough of my rant.

No, your set was just mixed and matched pretty much. We are not blind. The fronts of my duratrax set are all ALOT wider than they should be.

ok... I have all bearings on on the drive side of my car, and also the four in the front... that leaves two black spacers in the other back wheel... so what bearings can I get for that wheel??? I know its not necessary, but I want to do it anyway anyone want to sell me them???
Thanks

That's cool, I'm just saying that duratrax doesn't make bearings for the mini-z exactly... they just find bearings that kinda fit & put them into a package.

another tip
Look at the start date of this thread.
"Back in the day" it was Duratrax or Kyosho bearings.
Duratrax was more readily available in the States, so that's what I got. The front beatrings are too wide but will still kind of fit. The wheel nuts would come off now and then. So I later got a different set of bearings from the shop that were the right size.
To utililze both sets on two Zs I used a wide bearing and a correct width bearing on each front wheel. Ta Da.
And just to rub it in I won a set of the ultimate Dry Race Bearings. "A Fraction of the Friction".
btw- It's amusing when the newbies say stuff like:
"Just don't buy Duratrax bearings"
"Why make an O-plate, just buy one"
