drift set up
i got a mr02 for christmas woohoo! now thati have somehting to race other than my 010, i would like to set it up for drifting. ive got two locked diffs (only front installed, rear is stock) aluminum swing shafts (also in front only). ive got a few different tyeps of springs, and a couple different types of tires. ive got some drift tires on the way (PN racing, i think), ubt what should i do to my car to tune it for drifting on carpet.
i drifted my xmod on our older track, and all i did was torque up the motor, smack some drift tires on and stiffen up the suspension. is that all thats needed for drifting my AWD? i know htere is a current thread about drifting it stock, but i dont want to just slide out around corners. i want to drift like some of the vids ive seen on this site.....you know, really drift!
oh and BTW, i do have an xspeed motor as well.
thanks for the help!

1) move the locked diff to the rear, this will help keep the rear out for longer periods of time.
2) drift tires are a must (you already have those on the way, this is good)
3) Get the car low as possible, and stiff as possible (springs and spacers) I put these in the same group because they are installed at the same time.
Tuning: If the rear slips out too fast, or spins too easily, try more camber in the rear.
If you have camber in the front, and the front turns in too quickly, try less camber in the front.
Too hard to keep the rear out, try less camber in the rear. If you use a ball diff in the rear, set it tighter.
If you find yourself over-compensating for the steering, turn down the dual rate for the steering.

thanks for the quick run down ninja. thats exactly what im looking for. my tires should be in for racing this afternoon. ill be dropping the rear to match the front, moving the locked diff to the rear (two locked diffs wouldnt be even better would it?), and hoping my tires come in today

In my opinion you do not want a locked diff in the front. If you lock the front diff then the car will just push straight forward when on throttle turns. It will be alot more difficult to get the rear to slip out if the front diff is locked. You need the front tires to be able to travel different distance, hence the working diff.

im a little late but wanted to reply. xoxide, if you didnt want to unlock it at a later date superglue would probably do the trick. i use a one way aluminum diff as my locked diff.
Ninja, ive tried it all different ways. running the one way in the rear allows for easily breaking traction, and higher speed running. after inspecting my mrs4 (w/ stage D) that i got for christmas, i discovered it has a locked front diff. out of curiosity i moved mine back to the front with the other things kept constant. i seem to get more control, which doesnt make snese after your explainantion of tire travel. the locked front also breaks free pretty easily, and amazingly enough i can still hold long swooping drifts. its the tight drifts, that im overdoing, but thats getting better with practice.
i guess the response "try somethign out, its diferent for every one" holds true in yet another case

Hi hrdrvr,
I agree with u about the front locked diff. It works fine with me when drifting but when i swap the lock diff to rear side, it becomes more difficult to drift.
