Why are there only 6 pillow balls in the Stainless steel upgrade from Kyosho? I installed them om my OL and it worked fine, but I find it irksome that there are only six when there are eight points that could use them. Four in the front and two in the rear on the motor pod is how I did it, was that how it was supposed to go?
BTW, I appreciate all of the knowledge floating about this board, and I love looking at all of the awesome and inspiring OLs. Keep up the great work.
actually, there are 12 points for the 4.8's and 2 for the 5.8's.
the 4.8's go 2 for each damper mount, 2 on top of each gear box (joined by the suspension arms),
and one for the bottom of each shock. I guess Kyosho was thinking a set for the front, and one for the back.
you still need to buy 2 sets of 6 pillowballs to occuply every place that one could go. I mean the 4.8mm pillow balls are like $10...that means you need to spend $20 to get all the spots filled. I think they should have made them in packages of 8...that would make much more sense. Becasue you have 4 suspension arms and there need to be 2 on each arm
- Custom Black Land Crusier, LSSM Lift, Silver Alloy Main Gear Cover, Silver Alloy Motor Heatsink, Silver Alloy Battery Clips, Silver Alloy Knuckles, Gunmetal Alloy Rims, Silver Alloy Underguard, Silver Alloy Front and Rear Suspension Mounts, Silver Alloy Front and Rear Gearboxes, Super U Swamper Tires
i noticed the most benifit when replacing the pillowballs on the gearboxes. i got 2 sets so i replaced the ones on the dampers as well but the ones for the shocks are pointless really. so i left those as is and keep the extra's as back up.
Are these also known as "milled ball?" I've always wondered if that's what those are. And I agree, I get a lot of suspension sticky, and it's always seemed like the pillow ball screws.
yes, they are listed as "milled balls" the screws are pretty strong and not as easy to strip as the stock pillow balls. if you have a hard time getting those out (stock), use pliers with some cushioning to remove them so you don't mare them. it's better than stripping them than having to use plier coming from experience...

Thanks for confirming my suspicion arch.
Do a quick search for suspension bind and you will find a few different solutions ranging from new pillowballs to polishing your existing ones with a dremel tool...
My overland suspension was almost useless when I first got it, and a bit of dremel work got me sailing smoothly...
It might be worth it for mini-zracer.com to buy pillowballs in bulk and break them up into sets of 12... just a suggestion...
