Question Tires for tar paper track

Hi All!

My home-built 16'x8' track covered with #15 tar paper is almost done but with a lot still left to be done.

I had Michael (Ferrari) test the track and he complained about oversteer using the stock tires. He really likes the car to understeer a bit. Mika (McLaren) also joined the test session and complained about the same thing, goes true for both Ralph (BMW) and Alan (Toyota). The grip is awesome though.

Any suggestions as to which tire combo to use. With the grip I notice, it would seem that the fronts are fine. I need to change the rears to slightly softer ones, maybe medium grip???

The other thing I noticed as far as tires are concerned is how they are packaged. They all come in a set of four for all corners all with the same shore rating. Is there any particular brand that only has a pair for rears or fronts?

With 4 F1's right now, I don't want to buy 2 pairs, 1 front/1 rear of the same rating.

Thanks a lot for the help.

same goes at the LHS. set of four, all the same rating. only suggestion i could give is to scrub in the front tires prior to using them ie sand paper.

sniff... poor jordan... where'd they go???... try foams... you'll never look at rubber again... (the track we used to go to also uses tar paper... but since they closed, and in the process of moving, they set up a tepmorary track at one of the guys house, they're using carpet.... and rubber on carpet is fine...)

We used all rubber on our tarpaper track last week with no problems. 2 F1-s (1 with 40's, one stock rubber) and one racer (with sticky 20's to keep up). We raced for hours with no complaints!

I think I might just bite it and buy those 40's and try them on the rears.

I can easily make the rears loose traction, or so called drift so definitely the fronts have much more traction.

But I'm gonne try scrubbing the front's first and see what it does. Hmmmm. The BMW Williams is still kinda new so maybe I'll slap those rears into the Ferrari to simulate the rears being stickier. If still no good, foams may be the only answer. Ahhh, more $$

This is good. Thanks everyone for the tips.
