Vodafone Mercedes AMG GT3

Vodafone Mercedes AMG GT3

Materials:
Kyosho Mercedes AMG GT3 unpainted autoscale
Krylon Fusion Gloss Black
Krylon Fusion Matte Fire Red
Rustoeum Bright Coat Chrome
Molotow Liquid Chrome 2mm pen
Future Floor Polish
Pattos Vodafone No888A Bathurst12Hr 2019

The graphics on this one were lite and added the 'O' to stencils for paint work. The chrome spray paint finish created some odd cracking and might be due to painting outdoors in 50+/- weather and curing indoors. The color scheme for the graphics allows for any color combination and looks to try this livery again in some more creative combinations.

This might be my favorite custom AMG I've seen so far. Again, your blending of paint and decals is great. I still keep ordering waterslide, but your vinyl decal use makes me want to try them instead.

Awesome paint job Ray! The simplicity and color choice is nice. How come you prefer using Krylon paints over something like Tamiya PS/TS?

cost really. I can paint 4+ cars with the same can of Krylon and it's nearly half the cost of Tamiya. That and I can get it at any Walmart or Lowes so cheaper and easier to get. Tamiya is good paint, don't get me wrong, but the number of cars I do makes $7 for a baby can impractical. One of these days I'll make the jump to air brush but that has other technical spray booth hurdles to overcome that I haven't been able to get to. I just really enjoy the creative process in finding a livery that inspires me and coming up with a creative adaptation at times. I also like pushing myself to use less decals and more paint so I'm taking on more of that when I can. I'd love to try a camo livery one of these days but thats actually really hard to do well.
I've watched a lot of YouTube video's from prop makers, model cars/trains/plains and even cosplay creators to learn new things. Prop makers for example have a very healthy approach to perfection and making something believable vs. photo recreation. Fascinating stuff to me. Consequently, I don't get hung up on complete perfection or making mistakes as they often lead to learning and happy happenstance situations. Big mistakes are still heartbreaking though. My aim is always to make the nicest job I can but also not loose sight of enjoying the process. It stops being fun when it feels more like work

I've got 3 more livery sets that I want to do and at least 2 livery adaptations planned. I need my 'Team' Michelin livery done at some point to go with all my other cars (R8, ZR1, C9, 599) and really want to get a Hankook done as well. I'm sure I'll pick up more livery sets in the mean time but I've got a healthy back log at the moment and decals aren't cheap either.

I REALLY like this one! Good job with the lines and the Os. I'm not sure you need to bother jumping to an airbrush with the quality you are getting out of your Kylon cans.

I got a cheap spray booth off ebay that is small but plenty big for mini z bodies. It has a built in fan, LED lights, and vents out the window. I made a seal with rubber floor tiles (it used to be my track before I invested in RCP) that seals up the rest of the open window, and it works well. Tamiya Acrylic are very low oder, although I've found that some colors scratch very easily on the track. For me, I really like the control of an airbrush, but getting the paint thinned correctly and keeping the airbrush clean and working well is definitely more to mess around with.
