pace car?

Hi guys. I'm new to mini-z and just finished building my own track out of the foam mats. Anyways, I had an idea today that when I start racing with some friends that it might be cool to use a pace car to start our races instead of starting from a stand still (I figure my wife could drive the pace car or someone who is sitting out the current race). Can anyone recommend a cheap r/c car that I could buy that would be of a decent enough qaulity that I could use for this purpose? I'm thinking $30 or less.

at that price your left with xmods as your only choice. range may be an issue though.

An Iwaiver or one of the new RPMz would be my choice as they are hobby grade and interferance would be less of a concern. Also the top speed on those would be a good pace for starting IMO, as they are quite a bit slower than stock kyoshos. Both are closer to the $50-60 range though.

If you went with an RPMz that would be a funny sight. You would have a NASCAR doing the pace laps for a bunch of street cars to race

yeah, those would have been my suggestions as well but they are nearly double what he's looking to spend.

I actually have another idea for a pace car. I stole a motor from the RPMz car and put it in my 015 for my wife to practice driving a slower car. That coulde be an option as well, so you can use one of your current cars. It runs at about half the speed of most of the racers on the track. Ive got another I could send you.

thanks for the advice guys. We've only got 3 mini-z right now so we can't afford to use one as the pace car. I guess I'll probably just go the xmod route. I think that should work pretty well.

My suggestion would be to stick with a pace car that is Mini Z based, a used one or an I series may be the ticket. This way you can swap parts between them, and not have to buy more stuff for a different chassis car. Another idea is find an old MR01 for cheap, some shops have marked them down in price. Shop around or find a used one for a good price.

i doubt you can find even mr-01's at $30 that are still worth driving. not saying it's not possible but unlikely. also he posted a budget...ideas that stay within that range i would think are the most helpful.

can you really get the rpmz's for $30? i've never seen them on clearance adn i rarely find them stocked anyhow. as cartoony as they look i'm not surprised they are not exactly hot items.

Yes, I got one from a Walmart in Fremont, CA for $30. I'll probably swing by
there this weekend. If anyone is interested I can check out if they have
it still on clearance.
