ZacMasterís MR-03 Build Thread

Hello, everyone.

I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge and information here.

As a newbie, Iím afraid all I can do is document my journey of upgrading my MR-03.

A picture to make it real...

You may have noticed my motor wires are pretty thick.

Thatís because the original wires broke.

Itís hard to see, but the black wire broke from its tab on the board.

I stepped up the wire gauge and got the soldering iron out.

I like it. I included the original wires for your browsing pleasure.

Also, that plastic t-plate is STIFF.

How about the PN Racing MR-03 MM Silver Carbon T-Plate #3 (MR3001S)?

Much better.

As I consider how to pay for RCP, my 3-year-old offered his alphabet tiles.

I donít know who was chasing whom:

Next up, bearings!

PN Racing Mini-Z 2WD Shield Hub Dry Ball Bearing Set (600129).

It took me a long time to figure out why there were only 7. (Because one of the rear wheels is statically attaches to the axle.)

Also, no pictures, but I bought 400324 PN Racing Mini-Z Pro Match Delrin Pinion 7T-10T.

I picked the 7T. Nice and quiet.

Finally, a HF plastic box.

No tool storage in it yet, but really nicely fits batteries and charger.

A couple more items in the mail today.

A PN Racing Box, beacuse money grows on trees, and I like how high quality it is.

Also, I didn't love the white front body mount on the stock MR-03. Here are the two parts you need. BM001A PN Racing Mini-Z Alum Interchangeable Front Body Mount Base (Orange) and CP213 PN Racing Mini-Z McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail Carbon Fiber Adapter.

Here's a picture of the old mount.

And the new one. Looks so good.

Last, but not least, I wanted to upgrade the original diff.

I tired really hard to find an Atomic LSD, but everywhere is out of stock.

Some forum research yielded some folks really liking the 64P metal gear diff from PN, so here goes nothing...

MR2055P PN Racing Mini-Z Precision Gear Differential 64P 53T

Out of the package the threaded collar was way too tight. I backed it off a little and ended up getting it too loose (gear skip). Tighted a little (just a few degrees, less than 1/8 turn), and it was perfect.

After installation.

So I took it for a little spin around my toddler's race course (gotta order a RCP wide L).

Also, I'm using the webcam easy lap counter with great success.

I just stumbled on this thread... I really like your style, and your ride is coming along well.

Next up, a disc damper... orange.

Where are you located, and are there any clubs nearby?

For smaller space, a mini-96 has more utility than a wide-L. Two wide-L are useful, but one feels like turning circles.

Orange disk damper, double a suspension, and motor mount on the way! (From Singapore. Might be a few days...)

Kansas. No obvious clubs nearby that I can tell...

Iíve been struggling with this. A single mini96 would be enough for me, ,but I imagine two wide Ls might lead to an actually HFAY entry. $230 now then $400 later? Or $200 now and $200 later....

Maybe the 96 is the right way to go until I can find or build a club.
