I have been speaking to a few people this weekend that were not aware that there is an open manufacturer stock class for the Atomic race. Basically this class is like any other stock Mini-Z class. You show up to the race and you get a handout Atomic Stock motor. The parts on your car do not matter. The fee for this race is only $20 and you get a $10 motor that you can keep. That is a pretty good deal. Due to the confusion, I am extending sign-ups until June 6th.

Only two more days left. Craig from iLap will be flying in to join us. We are very excited to run this new lap timing system. So far it has been working very well and everyone loves it. If anyone is interested in the system, I am sure Craig can answer of your questions. If you get a chance stop by and check out the action.

Schedule is looking like:

10 am: Doors Open

10:30-12: Check in and motor hand out.

12:00 pm : First open practice. We will be doing five minute practice sessions untill the first qual.



2:30 pm : Qualifying starts.



5:30 pm : Mains will begin.

Craig was at the NYRC race with the I-Lap system. It worked VERY well, and I even got an I-Lap shirt and hat!!! We had no issues with the lap counter, and the software worked perfectly.

I was impressed with I Lap as well. Graig has a neat pigtail that plugs into your ics port to power the transponder too....
Keep the pigtail away from your antenna and make sure the led (square) is in the windshield area.....

I used the standard connecter. Easier to install without interfering with the damper setup... It uses the same connecters as Giro-Z, so I used connecters that I already had from PN/KO events.

Another big race weekend done. I was pretty tired by the end of the night but I wanted to hang out with the guys at Strike. Dominic bought everyone a round of Patron. Thanks Dom.

Big thanks to Tim Copp for running the race program and working the mic. A car will be waiting for you here anytime you want to come back and race. Thank you Craig from ilLap for being our sponsor with the timing system. People only had good words to say about iLap, so good that all the clubs in the area converted this weekend. I hope that gets the ball rolling for Craig in the Mini-Z scene and more.

Thank you to Alan from Atomic for all the generous prizes, he made sure everyone left with something. Craig showed up with a bone stock car and left with a full Atomic spec car courtesy of Atomic.

I think the super star of the weekend was my brother Steven. He did a lot of the behind the scenes dirty work. He set-up four cars (two for other people), worked the rental track, charged everyone's race batteries, turn marshal'ed like a ninja and many other things I can not even remember. Next time you guys race here, take a look over at the rental track, it is crazy over there. Those kids hack way worst than Outside Line Racing. And the biggest behind the scene thanks goes to my wife, Chris. She keeps the store running like a well oiled-machine while I am in the back playing with the racers. I definitely need to take a day off and take her out.

Race Summary:

Race day started early for the ILR family. We all got to the track around 9:30 am and there were already a few races waiting for us. Just like last year Leo was again one of the early guys. Once the doors open, one by one racers started to fill the pit tables. Once the motors were handed out, the voodoo began. Everyone in the pits had there own special recipe for breaking in a motor. It varied from one minute in water to two hours with a slave motor. My secret, just plug and play. But I think it is just because I am lazy.

We ran three hours of practice and it seemed to be the perfect amount of time for our 30 plus racers.

In our F1 class it was basically a race for second. Layman Reid set the TQ early and was faster than the rest of the pack by about 0.5 per lap. Randy did give him a slight scare in the mains. But with Layman composure he managed to caught Randy and eventually lap him.

In our Stock Open class, Stephen Bui set the TQ by nearly 10 seconds. Jonathon Hernandez qualified second but had bad luck during the hole shoot and broke a rim. Stephen got our early and never looked back. The rest of the field had some very good battles. Art B, one of our sportsman drives, had the race of his life and finished third.

In the mod class Doug Graham set the TQ in round 2 with 40 laps. He was the only person to put down 40 laps. Fastest lap of the night was put down by our second place finisher Romel, with a 8.64s.

In the AWD spec class Hernandez set the TQ. In the class it was a 14 minute main so battery capacity was a concern. Hernandez took back the lead at the 2 minute mark and never looked back. Leo Z seemed to have the best car but when trying to get his lap back could not get around Hernandez. Hernandez eventually wore down the field and took the victory.

In what I feel was the main event of the night, the 2WD spec class, it was a great battle. Your TQ for this class was once again Stephen Bui. When watching the video Bui (blue car), Leo (white with black stripe), and Jaime M (yellow car). There were many lead changes in this race. Jaime lead early on but had some bad luck with a traction roll which gave second and third some time to catch up. Leo lead for a few laps until he hit a rail in the chicane. At one point in the race Leo drove into a turn marshall's foot and crashed. Stephen then took the lead spot as a result. If you have every raced with Stephen or even practiced with this guy you will know he has very good driving etiquette. With a plane ticket to Macau on the line he pulled over to let Leo by and then resumed the race. That was a very classy move. After the battle resumed, Stephen stayed patient and waited for a mistake. A few laps later a mistake happen and Stephen took advantage. He was now on cruize control and took the victory.

Big thanks to all the participants, without your support we would be racing in my garage.
