Hi all.
We have set up a club in West London (UK), West London Mini Racers.
We bought a Giro Z timing System and this is how we built our own DIY Bridge.
Here's how we made the internals for the bridge.
We used a 2m length of Plastic Waste pipe (1.5" or 38mm),
4 T pieces for the pipe,
1m length of 2x1 wood (spar)
Some electrical tape.
A large sheet of mylar ( An estate agents for sale Sign will do the job)
3 screws.
Tools used were, a dremel, Screw Driver, a Stanley Kniife and a pair of scissors
We decided to mount the recivers on a spar (the length of wood) which we would then mount inside the 1.5" pipe to protect it all.
We placed the receivers 26cm from centre on the spar and taped them in place.
We then cut holes in the pipe to allow the reciver to work.
Then we mounted it all inside the pipe and secured it in place.
One thing we wanted to do was to have all the wires and connectors in one pipe for ease fo transport and to hopefully save it from damage.
So thats basicly how we made our Giro Z Bridge for the total cost of about £5which was for the glue and the dble sided sticky tape.
After a couple of attempts I think this is pretty much it
I got hold of a large sheet of mylar and cut pieces to size. The 1st attempt had all the bridge coverd in chequers along with the logos but it was far too busy. In fact after looking at it for a while it made your eyes go funny like one of those optical illusions ;D
So I dicided to get rid of the Cheque on the top part of the bridge and just have a white background. I think its so much better.
The good thing is the Logos are only stuck on with dble sided sticky tape so they can be removed easily and changed for what we like. Ive also covered all the edges in White tape so there are no gaps.
I personaly think it looks a lot better than the Giro z Bridge they can supply.

i actually just got myself the system and i'm thinking of doing a similar bridge as yours. How tall is your bridge?
thanks
We made the bridge around 50cm tall.
However we can easily raise the bridge but using a longer length of 1.5" Waste pipe and cutting the leg sections to what ever length we need.

thanks so much that was the last measurement i needed to finish the bridge.
