I've created a little personal lap timing system for folks with a home track setup. It uses a connected web camera and motion detection to calculate lap times. Only works with one car though. Any changes in the camer's field of view will be picked up as a lap (shadows, lighting, your cat...).

You want to set the minium lap time just below your fastest lap time. That way if you crash in front of the camera you won't get detected twice (and get a false fast lap).
The program will beep every time a lap is detected along with reading off a fast lap time(s).
