Headlight Install

I bought a headlight taillight kit for my mini and I was wondering if there was any special way to wire the lights. They only seem to turn on when the car goes forward.

autoscales either come prepared for light kits or not. you will know if it does as they will come with fake 3mm led inserts.

the standard light kit will turn on/off with the throttle. there are some complicated light kits that have all sorts of nice features. please check out glowmasta as they have a very interesting strobe/flashing light kit.
aoshima has a light set just for police light type light set.
yeah racing used to make a midnight driver light kit that has intelligent features as well. i bought one years ago but never actually got around to using it.

for the basic kits, you simply screw them to the motor leads/pcb points. the more advanced ones require additional attachments usually at the battery leads tie ins to the chassis.

Ahh right. It seems a little fiddly for just a light kit. Is it possible to use a deans or some other sort of plug to bridge the connection, so you can leave them permanantly attatched?

I got a firelap led light kits installed on my AE86 and what I did was attach the electronics to the top of the roof, and extend the front and rear lights along the sides of the windshield.

For battery connection, I attach a short wire(with connector) to the pos and neg battery terminals of my AWD, and another connector to the light kit on top. So each time before putting on the body shell, I just complete the connection and the lights will be on.

The cool part about this setup is if you use a pretty hot motor, the rear light might dim because of the voltage sack when the car accelerate; the effect is especially more prominent when the battery is half used.

Hmm, I'll see closer to the time. I've got a kit from Maplin to help me practise. Thanks for the offer, I'll keep that in mind!
