swapping electronics

I am about to have a spare mr-03 sports board and transmitter. Could I put that board in an older MR-02 AM to upgrade it to 2.4ghz?

Yes, you should be able to. You just need to use the larger servo motor from the MR02. Might need to reverse the wires for the motor, I don't remember the orientation, it's been a while. Cut holes in the PCB cover for the different ICS port on top.

Also, the MR02 only uses two servo pot wires, and the MR03 has 3. On an MR02, 1 of the wires spans two of the contacts on the pot. With an MR03, each contact gets its own wire.

You have to do this, if you don't, you can't put the cover on. Make sure the hole you cut clears the entire rectangle of the port or you will break the board by pushing too hard when you try to close the cover. Don't ask me how I know. If you want to use the port for anything (lights?), you need to make sure and get the correct disc damper that leaves the port clear.

Also, FYI, if you haven't already seen them, there are several threads about the Das Mikro ASF clone board, and putting those into MR02s. I have 2 cars like that, where I replaced the 27AM MR02 board with an MR03 ASF clone board.

Excellent info superbly! I was a little quick with my response, busy at work.

I haven't had a chance to try the clone boards, but plan to pick up some early next year to update some stragglers in the fleet.
