I was glancing over your question's and got nervous when someone mentioned "Power Drill".
Here's some suggestions for those first timers who haven't had experience in larger scales.
My F1 diff came with an allen wrench. Place this in the tiny hole on the diff side. This should be on your right side if your holding the car upside down ass end away from you. Now with the allen wrench holding the right side(Diff), adjust the left by turning the wheel. The diff should come tight from the factory. To lossen turn the left tire towards you and away from you to retighten. I have two sedans and an F1, and diffs from three company's This works for all three. They are Kyo for the F1/****** for mod sedan/Ceramic for the stock sedan(miniz.com).
Remember these are small scale racers and don't adjust them like there 1/10,1/12 counterparts. The smallest turn of the diff makes a huge diffrence in performance. It dosen't take much to have it slip so much that the car can't move.
Here's some suggestion's on general setup:
Lossen the diff up a little at a time. After each adjustment put the car down on the ground and see how much it slips on the surface. Be patient it takes time to get a feel for the car when going from different racing surfaces and tire combonations. After some time you can add rear suspension setups into the equation.
When a diff is completely tight it's like posi traction on a real car.(Both wheels turn at the same rate/power) It's good to have a little slip.
Also another way to look at diff adjustments is this:
-Tight diff equals more straight line speed and power, slower in the turns.(Tendency to spin out ,car is over powered or steered when cornering)
-Losse diff equals less off/straight line speed, better handiling in the corners/faster corner speeds.(The diff "slips" under power allowing it to find more traction.
-Spend as much time tuning the car as you are running it in practice. As your driving skill increases so will tuninig the car to your style. I'm still searching after 8 years of racing.(95').
I hope this will help some of you awnser your basic questions on the "Gear Diff".
I HATE TYPING MY THOUGHTS!
What about diff grease? I purchased a set of MZR ceramic balls for my Powerline ball diff. Can you recomend what to clean and replace the factory Powerline gunk/grease with? Something compatable with the MZR ceramic balls.
