F1 Boat Race Track
Nice idea.
I already bought a 12 x 20 pool cover for 4 inches of water.. If it is a good size I will make a video. I already got the boat to perform well for a 3 or 4 min fast race.
My other idea is i have a great pond nearby with no overgrowth all year. It is shallow.
i am thinking of useing 8ft 1/2 inch pvc tubeing some cut to length with waterproofed closed ends then styrofoam blocks painted red as flotation device for pipe jammed on ends and then weights with string to anchor it from floating away.
Im sure 2 people would be best to set it up . One to hand out supply as needed.
Again. MiniZracer..please put up a main topic for boats pease!!! Such as Newproducts, Videos,Overlands...and BOATS! pleeeeeeze
These are mini-z's and should not be overlooked...again THX!

Just as a note for the sanding and the non-believers, have you looked at a golf ball lately? all those holes create a vortex and make the ball fly faster through the air.
here is a link http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/question37.htm
The same theory applies to cars and boats

Mini Z Formula Boats!!
Finally got re-registered to post there.
I have both boats with the Aquaspeeds and Prop-sets.
I am also custom building an Offshore Catamran hull for the
"3rd" formula boat I purchased for the "guts" to match
my 21 foot Skater Cat. I will try to post the pics of the hull
as it gets completed.
I love the boats and I have yet to still try out my 6-cell 150mah
batteries. I am running the 3-blade prop with great results.........
for the first minute of running! Once the Aquaspeeds are broken in
the seem to be great runners. I noticed that they are VERY trim
sensitive. I will also be trying out the "sanding sponson" trick and
will report my findings... I also love the idea of a "track" to run these
things on. My friend has a tiny pond that we are going to race on this
spring at his house.....More to come.......

More Custom Hull pics
She may be ready in a couple of weeks to try out.
I still need to finish the deck and drive unit.
If it runs well, I will attempt to make a mold for the upper
and lower half and make a light weight fiberglass version.
I felt it was necessary to make "Rough Water" boat as
the stock Formula hull sit very low in the water, but they seem
to manage fine once under way. I hope mine handles the
heavy chop better. I made a funny,.... heavy chop.... with a micro boat....
Ha, Ha,......

Wow! Impressive craftsmanship.
I'm down at Franks Trains and hobby in FLA to race the oval track, but really wish I brought my F1 mini boat. The pool in the hotel im staying is godlike.

I like the look of the cat, can’t wait to see it finished.
I finally settled on the 600mAh LiPo pack because of my motors current requirements am currently using a custom motor made by BSRT w/30 Spud armature it’s a real screamer but also a current hog even if balanced an trued, fortunately the 2x2 4562 FETs are holding up, BTW thank your Kyosho for putting the extra pads on the circuit board so the FETs don’t have to be stacked. Anyway the battery pack unfortunately weighs 8 grams more than the stock 120 NiMH pack which isn’t much but as you said the F1 hull already sits very low in the water and even 8 grams more is noticeable, it’s not so bad once I get moving but if I hit any chop it is starting to get exciting and if I throttle back to fast… lets just say that the F1 isn’t exactly water tight and the pond water in the great NW is not exactly room temp .
Have started on my landscaping project, lol the wife as predicted is somewhat skeptical about the hole thing and I have to admit that when stacked out it is looking like a good deal of work, trying to level the required area, unless I can find someone with a Bobcat they are willing to lend me .

Formula Boat Set-Up
Thanks for comments guys! Since we are talking boat here,
what are you guys finding the best set-up is? For most water (calm)
I find that the 3-blade prop, Stock battery, Aquaspeed, and most inportantly
the prop shaft is nearly in line with the drive shaft exiting the boat bottom.
Since I am into full size boat the run with a Surface Piecing Propellor.
I have decided to remove the lower unit from the Kyosho outboard
and install a propeller directly on the output shaft coming out of the bottom
of the boat in an attempt to get some more RPM out of the motor.
I made a small rudder that now slips in original bottom side of the outboard
and use the clamp screw to hold it in and that way I still will have steering.
I have two shafts made up with the props at different lengths out of the
drive shaft tube. I may try it out tonight if the wind is low.
Has anyone tried messing with the trim tabs? I may take them off
completely to see what happens as well. Glad to see others enjoying
and modifying these cool little boats!!!

Can’t be much help on the boating aspects since this is the only boat I’ve ever tried, but I can help a little for anyone who wants more than the Aquaspeed in the way of a motor.
These precision balanced custom slot car motors made by BSRT in Seattle will fit in the Formula 1 boat, although you will need to cut a hole in the bottom of the motor box for the slightly larger rotor.
Note; due to the high number of turns slot car motors like the Mabuchi square can are not rated by the number of winds instead they are rated by the gage of wire used to wrap the rotor so the smaller the number the larger the wire diameter resulting in fewer turns and a faster motor.
When going to the following link you will notice that the motors only go up to 34 gage, which although hot is not exactly extreme for the F1, it is however insane for a slot car at 18 volts so although they make and advertise them they actually try to discourage slot fans from buying them. So you need to explain that your not using the motor in a slot car but want to put it in a boat, once you get over that hurtle if your nice you can even coax them to wind a 33, 32, or even a 31 gage motor for you. Of coarse you will then need upgraded mosfets, and batteries with a higher capacity capable of delivering a little more current too i.e. LiPo’s. Also since the motors are made to run at higher voltages the timing is a little advanced but that actually seems to be a plus for a boat since you don’t need much low end torque.

Perfect time for John at RCP to introduce his new wet-track system !
Hmmm... HFAY for boats ?
I wonder what I could do with higher rails, and few hundred tubes of RTV ?

Another Updated picture
I am gald to see more people posting and sharing
ideas on the Formula Boats!!! I really liked the Water RCP Track!
Here are a couple more picks of the custom hull.
By the way, Last night I tried out the direct drive prop right out the
tube on the bottom of the hull and I saw an increase in speed. and
slight cavitation in right hand turns.......But, this mod seems
to be alot more efficient than running thought the flex joint.
I am going to keep testing this as I really want to utilize the stock
battery/Aquaspeed/props that are readily aval. to purchase.
