PVC tires are great for 1/10 once you get moving. Xmods would be kinda hard to control, in my opinion... well, I guess with the AWD kit it would be a lot easier.
Tape works pretty well for the Mini Zs.

dugrant153, get an upgraded c/f h-plate set (I use Kyosho's soft) and a front spring set (I use Kyosho's medium springs). You might want to offset the tire balance too. Get about 5-10° softer tires in the rear, and I would get the wide, "flat" Kyosho tires for the rear.

Well this really isn't a set-up as much as it is a visual expession of "DRIFT"
This is something RCM has been working on and brought it over today as the MONSTER GARAGE group got together to run a little OVAL in the garage today....it is going to take a bit more adjustment to get it to run right..........so we pretty much stuck to the stock MR01's and Overland's

DBR, how did you setup the chassis to run that staggered rear tire setup? it looks that it may just spin around under full throttle. The stagger would be good for oval racing if you setup right.
One difference between oval racing and drifting is in oval racing they turn the same way all the time, and drifting they turn to the left as well as right.

Well I haven't tried the h-plate yet, but I may try the springs. I'm trying a tape setup on flat tile and so far it's been... well, sitll very twitchy, which leads to donuting.
I may upgrade tires too if I find tape doesn't work.

Dont use tape! lol, its too slick. Just use the stock tires and a ball differential and an x-speed motor.
DBR, that is one nuckin futz Mini-Z!

Hehe, yeah drifting with tape is cool, but tricky. A ball diff will help keep your Z strait off the line more and give you better cornering control. So each way you turn, you can drift almost equally, compared to the gear diff which favors one way only!

ah hah! that explains my lack of control!
yeah, tape is definitely very tricky. I find it's quite easy to break the rear end loose on flat tile... too easy, in fact. I end up donuting most of the time (still).
But maybe a ball diff will help with that?

Yeah, a ball diff would defintely help, it wont give out as easily and they're adjustable too, so you can set it to your liking. The ball differential is essential to any racing with the Mini-Z anyways....
I also drift on hard wood/tile floors, so it should work out for you. I recommend either Kyosho's diff or GPM's 1/16" ball diff (referring to the 12 steel balls in it, versus 6 larger ones).

you need to adjust your diff till it runs straight when punching it full throttle from a dead stop
