I'm not certain this livery is based on a real car as I could not find photos of it however I was intrigued by the combination of colors. I've never used a pink hue before and very seldom a baby/sky blue. I do like the metallic Black Stainless, it always turns out nicely and the flake is very fine and scales well with the car.
The difficult part on this one was like other multi-color combo's, sometimes you just don't get a good sense of the outcome till you pull off all the mask tape. I made a couple mistakes in not changing the blade out for a nice sharp one and left some core marks in the plastic that showed up under final color. Like mask tape, blades are a consumable and shouldn't hesitate to change them. With a fresh blade, you can do fine cuts that don't score the plastic underneath.
This being the third body I've done, the rear side marker lights can be the trickiest things to place. They tend to slide around and if you don't have nimble fingers, can be a challenge. Nothing better than the satisfying click when they seat properly. This kit has many parts like this, which is one reason why it's such fun to build. I have three of them now and nothing really to put them on...
Another nice job! So do you tape, then cut the tape on the body? I usually lay out my Tamiya tape on a small piece of clean glass and then tape to the body, but I have never gotten the level of detail that many of your bodies have.
some times it's easier to trim on the body. I had multiple layers overlapping with the black being the final color pass to overlap them all. due to my order of operations, I had trimmed some areas before and in the process, forgetting they would be only covered by the final color pass, and used a less than super sharp knife blade. All my fault, wrong order of operations and didn't pay attention to the blade condition. Thankfully it's only on the bottom water line.
I have 4 more coming so more work ahead when I decide what to do next. I've just run through the current livery decals I ordered.
There are MANY of the BRE vintage livery on FB which look fantastic but not really inspired to do one after seeing so many. I still want to do a solid blue Calsonic or yellow/white/black Penzoil livery. There are more than a dozen Nismo themes too.
