MR-015 True stock class

Hi everyone

Just wondering what people think of changing the stock class chassis to an MR-015 from the MR-02?

Some of the top racers don't like the idea. But my reasoning is they are so many classes already and more classes will be coming (pan car 2wd and I would not be supprised if CF AWD class comes up). The miniz community is still considered small and to many classes may seperate the comunity and illiminate many chassis. Beside the narrow front width of the MR-015 and the verticaly placed batteries. the chassis is essentially the same has an MR-02. I feel this chassis will not only teach someone how to drive better but it will teach people how to set up a car well because at high speed if you do not set up the MR-015 well it will tip over. Now ive seen some MR-015 that are amazingly fast around corners and dont tip (EMU's MR-015 for example is legendary ) Using an MR-015 has the true stock class would not be about the best latest chassis, it would be about how well can you set up your car. I think they would have to use some realy slow motors to slow down the MR-02 stock class and make it slower then the MR-02 mod class ON THE TRACK not straight line speed . As it stands one can always gear up the stock motor and come close and at time faster then the mod class speed ON THE TRACK, with some lost of bottom end torque. It would be nice to have two distinct classes for 2wd that focuse on different aspect of racing. And last, I think it would great for new comers that want to have a driving experience but havent built up there reflexes yet. The other alternative is eliminate the MR-015 and use the MR-02 for 2wd stock, mod, pan and nascar. I am not sure that is a good idea.

There is many reasons why this is the wrong path to take, the main things is a class should be defined by dimensional specs and not chassis type. It hinders growth of the hobby as a class or scale by limiting the entrants to a specific chassis.

PN has gone the right way by slowing down the motors to "stock speeds" for stock and making a faster motors for modified. Just because most people will still go faster with a stock motor, it does not mean everyone will. Even in larger scales, the majority of people will always go faster in stock, it takes a lot of finesse and driving experience to go faster with a modified motor and many people will never be able to do this.

Pan car class is defined by chassis type, electronic and body (I did not mention motor b/c some will run there stock motor in mod class). And sooner or later someone will cry its not fair to run CF chassis pan cars with MR-02's because the chassis is one of the most important things.

Unless they run a box stock motor for stock MR-02 (or make a motor with same performance) we wont see much of a difference the way it is now. And currently judging from the last two races (Atomic at Flushing and RCX) no one has that finesse you talk about especially when it come to a slippery track. Maybe we need more traction

I appreciate your response and I understand your logic. I would like to see what other people in the community think or have thought about to deal with stock and mod classes.

more people will own an mr-02 than an mr-015. why create a class just to require yet another chassis? i know a few clubs do have restrictive stock class, maybe they limit to mr-015 as well?

I do like the MR015 class that is run at Action. It is more of a 'stock' class than the MR02. We call it a spec class, using MR015 with the Kyosho box stock motor. I am going to test the new PNWC motor and see how the speed compares to the Kyosho stocker.

The bodies are limited to allow bodies that will not fit an MR02 without modifying the body or the chassis in some way to make it compatable. I enjoy driving the MR015 more than the MR02, since there is more body roll due to the battery layout as well as the track width.

The way that I see it, is that the MR015 class that we run is more of a stock class than the MR02 class, which is more of a super stock class. I dont think that the MR02 class will change, and use the PNWC motors. Although, they could make a good alternative motor to the Kyosho stock motor for the MR015 class. Making it much easier to set up the cars using motormounts that use mounting holes on the motor.

PN uses the slower motors for the stock class in the PNWC series, however, I do not think that many clubs will follow suit. Many will still use the standard stock fet motors, like PN Speedy 07, 05, Atomic Stock, Standard, and X-Speed as the motors for the stock class. I dont think that many 'racers' want to slow down the stock class as much. I think it is better for racing with the slower motor, however, motor options are very limited. Different pilots like different feels from the motor. Some like a lot of roll, others like a lot of drag...

I would like to see more clubs, even events use the MR015 chassis. It really does not get any recognition. It will be run for the NYC Championships race at Action in June, along with the MR02 class, and a combined 2WD/AWD modified class that will permit aftermarket chassis to be used as well (with Kyosho ASC bodies). We get almost as many entries for the MR015 class as the MR02 class at our weekly point series races. It is the second most popular class and is very competetive.
