Just a fair warning that our results this month may be skewed a little higher
I again experimented with both 3500kV and 5500kV cars, and on this particular layout (track 17), I'm noticing the 5500kV has a greater advantage than the 3500kV compared to the previous layouts. I'm guessing it's due to the longer straight section where the higher top end of the 5500kV comes more into play.

The race in the video looks like a really good time, great driving, WoW ! Glad to hear more drivers & in this case top notch will be on April's list...to be in top 10 itself is becoming an achievement in itself ...like it a lot
I was guessing same about faster motors having a larger impact not only for April but also May's layout with 12 tile long but slower entry on straightaway, and as such planning to finally use the faster motors for both months.
Great progress with ins & outs of NLT !! ... I need to find time for a second reading of all the new features and ideas in the pipeline but thanks for doing a great job !

Pleasantly surprised to find out number of communities on NLT has mushroomed to 12

I was trying to get on the howfastareyou web page this morning to get the track layout for May, but the site must be offline. Are the track layouts stored in any other places?

I received an email telling me they were not accessible today. I wasn't hosting those images but I am now. I have updated all the links in the current and past races.
Does this mean a new site is coming?

Had a great time running April's Round at Malibu Mini-Z last Sunday. As mentioned previously i finally dropped in a 5250 motor for the first time and have to say what a pleasure it was. bobbyz didn't get a chance to swap out his motor like he was going to but the gap in laps between the two of us remained pretty much same as before as results will show once they're revealed. it is more of a challenge to drive and the number of bobbles I had at least doubled but the rip on that long L was so satisfying...infield involves more finesse and more subconscious braking action, so i was busier overall in a good way while driving... very drivable with 53/9 gearing . BTW didn't have to dial back throttle setting on ESC/Tx that much...mostly on the 'feel' setting that KO Tx's have.
A few realizations that came to light on the equipment side were that neither fresh nor $15 a pack HV batts nor just-cleaned-out or ceramic bearings nor heavier steel axled kyosho diffs will factor in as the grunt of the powerful motor on the smaller tracks makes all those non-issues unlike when running 3500 in which case all of those of course do matter. in those regards it is by far the more economical power plant.
Anyway hope everyone else who ran had as much fun was had at Malibu mini-Z and looking forward to results and running May's layout

Nice, the 5250 is a smooth motor. I had mine geared at 53/10 this month with the longer straight. Makes for some exciting driving.
Completely agree that the faster motor negates any need for extensive battery prep, I was mainly running older unmatched packs not always freshly peaked, and power would not drop off significantly over the 8 minute run. For 3500kV, really needed the warm freshly peaked matched cells to get the extra oomph, which would start to fade some about halfway through the run.
Hopefully we can keep using the faster motors or at least as a separate class going forward.

At the brooklyn track, they only run "stock" 70t/3500kv. Which means that we need to do every little trick for speed despite the small track. Originally, we also ran a pro stock class, which many racers just ran the same car twice so the class was dropped. I liked it because I didn't need to do all of the speed tricks... the 5250kv motor had plenty of speed for the circuit, much like HFAY layouts. You could get a little more rip on the straight, but had to under drive the infield sections.
Most racers were not faster with the extra power. I feel that the class could have been better restricting racers from using stock class cars in it, mandating faster motors to be used than stock permitted. I think having the extra power at your fingertip changes the mentality of how you use it compared to needing to fight for every little bit of power you can get.

Paul and I both ran the PN 5,500 KV motor this time around and it didn't seem to be much better then the 3500 the one thing about the 5,500 is that the lines didn't need to be as clean as it needs be with a 3500
However for me it was only worth one tenth of a second but as it was faster and not snail speed like stock
So for me it was easier to be more consistently faster
FYI... For the March and April round I added a PNR AA ARM set up to my MR03 Evo chassis

Malibu Mini Z results for Aprils races are posted. Top fast laps (Muglers) for our group were 4.024 CW and 4.139 CCW during the two races, and a few laps during practice/qualifying that were just a bit faster. Looking forward to seeing the results tomorrow, and finishing up Season 27's last two races in May.
Thanks again to the PDX crew and Blaine/NLT for all the work keeping HFAY going and improving, and to Brian for continuing to develop a great series for us all to enjoy. Looking forward to Season 28!

Aprils track was a fast track. We all really like the longer straight with the sweeper corner. I decided to run a pn3500 evo for April it is such a smooth and quiet car, really just enjoy driving it as compared to the edgy pn5500 and the less smooth pn70t. I could get an extra lap or two with the 5500kv when practicing by myself, but with other cars on the track I didn't see any improvement. I think it would be a little different if everyone racing were running the faster motors, but they were all running 3500kv and 70t.
I ran my first race in the 100's on the CW run that was pretty cool, until I saw the results...Lol. I hit 105 laps and finished in 10th position! The level of competition is really good. I am aiming for the top of the list, now i just need to find 20 more laps somewhere.

Competition is really heating up all throughout the chart
There are a lot of new drivers this month which is great.
Also many drivers made some huge jumps adding 10+ laps compared to their runs last month which is really impressive.
Hopefully we can get everyone improving, keep posting questions on car setups or any other advice.
