Hey, I have had my MR-03S2 for about 1 week now. For the past week I've just been going down to my local track and practicing for about 1-2 hours each visit.
I do plan to race soon. Today I ordered my first upgrades on the car. Bearings, Front suspension, and Back suspension. I already upgraded the tires.
How did I do on my first purchase?
What should I upgrade next... the motor?
I read that any other motor than the stock on the Sports 2 will burn out the FETs unless I stack or upgrade them.
Not sure why the pic didn't show up, maybe its a post count thing. Upgrading the parts for handling is always a good idea, but the best thing is what you said is at the first of your post, Practicing will make you faster than any part. Practice as much as you can and try small changes to setup to see what makes the car handle better. Maybe you could list out the upgrades you added. Did you have a chance to try it since the upgrades? How was it? Sorry I cant help with any advice on the fet thing, but I do know that is an advanced operation and that you should probably do it to run anything but the stock motor. Unless you can solder very small parts get someone to do it for you. You might have to switch motors anyway if you add a motor mount since the stock ones are tricky to drill the screw holes for mounting. Keep up the good work and see if you can get that pic to post.
Everything that you have listed is worthwhile and will make the car better and maybe a little easier to drive. As far as motors are concerned you can run a Kyosho X-Speed without worry. it will also make the car as fast as you will be able to handle for quite some time. my suggestion would be to stay with the
6T pinion until you cannot possibly extract a better lap time. When that happens go to the 7T and start the process over. It never hurts to grow with the car. Your end result will come quicker and you will be better overall.

Yea, I thought the handling would be the best thing to upgrade first. I will definitely try to get as much practice time on the track as I can. As for the parts...
PN Racing Mini-Z MR03 RM Carbon T-Plates #3, #4, and #5
PN Racing Mini-Z- MR03 Front Suspension Spring Set (5 pairs)
PN Racing Mini-Z 2-WD Shield Hub Dry Ball Bearing Set (7 pcs)

Glad to hear. I will defenitely take your advice on the X-Speed motor and the pinions. Thanks.
welcome to the forums...
great move on the upgrades...
looks like you initially covered everything, practice more and try to turn in consistent laps... experiment with the different springs and t-plates... ask the guys at ilr what type of springs and t-plates they use and try them out if they suit your style of racing/driving... i believe a stronger motor can wait for the time being...
when traction seems a bit sluggish or if you begin to start spinning around, time for new tires...
The X-speed motor is pretty much as much horsepower as most people will need for casual/mildly competitive Mini-Z racing. Honestly, I still really prefer the stock 70T motor for racing unless the track is huge, where you can really use all that power the X speed/brushless cars offer. I've been doing Mini-Z for 5-6 years now and I still find the stock motor plenty challenging on a tight track with a handful of other cars
There are a few guys at our track who still beat most of the mod car guys with really well set up stock cars that they can drive extremely well.
What these guys are saying is absolute truth in Mini-Z, and one of the best parts of this hobby: If you wanna be fast, you gotta practice practice practice! There is no substitute for driving skill in Mini-Z, not even $$$$
