Mini Z car storage options?
Hello all,
what are you all using to store your Mini Z cars (with or without radio).
I am aware of various Kyosho boxes - but they are super expensive.
Are there for example Plano boxes that work well? Which one(s)?
Or would you have other suggestions?
Thank you for any ideas

Harbor Freight. I'll supply the part number when I get home.

PN sells some nice boxes for single cars to keep them safe. You would still need to put them in a larger box with your other stuff. I have three cases total to carry all my crap. One that carries my two radios, one for tires and rims, small parts, and another larger DeWalt two layer tool box for my cars and tools.

It's the Apache 4800. That is their largest case and holds 3 cars, radios, and an extra body. It has pick foam, so you can customize the spaces for your car and radios.
They also have smaller, less expensive sizes.

I like a Plano 1374. You can fit all your radios in the top bin, and it holds four 3700 series boxes below.
if you get a 3707 (open compartment), you can fit 4 cars side-by-side in it, provided they aren't too tall or have large wings. Or you can fit a combination of two 3700 boxes and three PN car boxes.
Anyway, it's pretty flexible, and is about the minimum size to go racing once you start packing around multiple cars, batteries, chargers, parts, etc.

I just pack my cars into a small cardboard box and it goes in my duffle bag. Depending on thr event or how many cars I bring thr box changes. A little foam packing material between the car's keeps them in place. I usually bring between 9 and 12 cars when I go to a race, 2-3 per class plus some parts cars.
I mostly travel to races by public transportation, so I need to pack dense. I often have a second smaller box with projects that I'm working on and bring it if i think there will be time to play outside of the race program. I am definitely not the prettiest pit spot.

Just so you know, the Plano 3707 is barely tall enough for cars to fit.
The way I use it, I don't shut the lid tight with the latches, but just slide it into the 1374 top slot, so the lid is closed but not latched tight. If your cars are low profile, you should be fine, but if you have any high mount cars or large wings, you might have issues with them fitting.
You can see here, the Ferrari 575 is keeping the lid open just a bit. I could close it and latch it, but it would compress the suspension. It still slides into the slot fine, though.
One more minor suggestion: if you get the 1374 (should be less than $50, usually around $39), it comes with four trays inside, just not the 3707 open compartment. But, the ones that come with it can each fit at least one, if not two cars in one of the trays if you don't put dividers in the slots in the front portion (you put them perpendicular to how they are in the open tray, and depending on the body, you can get two cars nose-to-nose). That way, you get a place for your controller and all your parts.

One of the club members where I used to race very generously gave me a Kyosho Route 246 3-drawer carrier. I've found it very useful to keep radio, chargers, and batteries in the top drawer, extra parts bins in the middle drawer, and cars and tools in the bottom drawer . I think the one I have has since been discontinued, but there are other brands geared towards larger scales that will work fine. Just know the bigger your case the more $ you'll most likely spend filling it up
