core sending unit issues
alright guys,
I have looked through all of the posts to try and find the solution to my problem. I have a new core system and my computer will not recognize the sending unit. If I plug in my thumb drive it recognizes it with the two tones, but when I plug in the core sending unit it will not recognize it. I have tried plugging it into both of my usb ports. I have also used both plugs the silver and the red, but still no response. When I try to start the system it just gives me the little menu then nothing. Any ideas from the brain trust???
oops I forgot to mention I have tried the port 3 trick and that did not fix the problem. thanks for your help.

I am no expert but seem to remember I had the same problem. Has to do with updating the driver for the USB port( I think). The paper work or help manual has something on this I also think!! Try updating the driver and see what happens, can,t hurt.

I have been helping out Wes. and we are still unable to get the system to start up. it don't give the "Found new hardware" or even the "chime" every time the unit is plugged into the computer. Mine does that.
question 1. is anyone running the sytem on a USB 1.0 syetem (older USB systems)
Qeestion 2. is anyone having to manually assign the port swith? (ie. -port 3)
we have tried several different options and it seems to me that the unit isn't getting enough power? either because of the USB 1.0 or something like that.
Help would be greatly appreciated if you have had any of these issues.
He did go and install both SP1 and SP2 also. and has installed the new USB drivers that were supplied by core.
thanks for your help.

Try another USB device that requires power on that port, I am guessing that it is not supplying power. I have had laptops with similiar issues due to people unplugging devices while they are powered up.
I hope this helps.

This may sound weird, but i've had some intermitent problems with the unit as well. maybe it'll help.
I was able to start a race, but the comp wouldn't read the unit after a few laps. After a few nights of frustration. I took out my expensive vid card and ran it on the MB graphics card. No issues since, It may be the actual program not able to read the unit due to something else in conflict.

he has tried a thumb drive and it works fine, but then it doens't required alot of power either.
thanks for the repliers guys. Wes was going to get a USB 2.0 and we'll give that a try....
he is running an older laptop. I happen to think it's more of a power issue though, since it doesn't see if when it's plugged in. (sees it in the device manager, just won't start up). this is way I thinks it's a power issue.
the software will start up with the "-no port connected" trick

Here is the deal.
I picked up a new 2.0 card installed it. When I plug the reader into either of the ports it accepts it. Then I have to install the drivers. After that it will not recognize the unit. And all goes back to the same situation. the core just shows me the small start up screen then it goes away and nothing. I am just out of answers other than the reader is bad...it does not light up......

Guys,
I have tried to install the system on two computer with the same results.
1. Plug in the counter, reader, (the silver box) to the usb port 1.0 or 2.0 card, and the computer recognizes it.
2. It prompts me to install the software. I use the core drivers.
3. The computer tells me that I have sucessfully installed my new hardware.
4. Then it all goes horribly wrong. The icon on the bottom right of the computer disappears.
5. Now any attempts to plug in the counter, reader, (silver box) through the usb 1.0 or 2.0 ports results in the computer doing nothing...it does not even recognize that I am plugging anything in. My thumb drive still continues the work in every port.
can the drivers be bad, or outdated?
This has happened on two different computers a laptop and my computer at work.

go to the device manager and update the usb drivers from there. that is what i've done. and/or, if you have installed a new usb pci card make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer.
when i plug in my core, i am never prompted to install usb drivers or atleast i have not been prompted to do so since maybe the 1st time i ran the system. have you tried ignoring the prompt to do so? will the core software still work? if so, simply close that prompt window whenever it opens and continue as you were.
it sounds like a driver issue more than hardware. i'm not a software guru so other more qualified people will jump in.
