I've only been to your track one time. Last years winter nationals I finished third behind dave and mike haynes. I had a problem not counting my first two runs. I didnt like that you never had anyone check their cars in before the race. The third round came around and then you told me to bring the transponders up and check them on the line. After spending alot of money that day having two nightmare qualifying runs due to non counting you told me I had the wrong transponder in the car. As a pro racer this killed me even more than the gunshot starts. Im not trying to talk down on your ways im just trying to say maybe someone might run into this problem and It could be solved before the third qualifyer. Just giving my two cents

I don't understand, If you knew you had a problem with the lap counting system in two races before the main, why didn't you bring it to Al's
attention or ask someone at the track who is familiar with the system?
Al is very accomodating when it comes to troubles either with the computer
system or your car, He'll help you out any way he can!
Seems to me you're blaming someone else for you dropping the ball!
Not Cool at all!

I don't think Themelis was placing blame just a concern. It doesn't matter how it happened or who's fault it was....the fact is it did and how can we avoid it from happening in the future. As a friend of the track and its racers I never like to hear someone leaving Action with a bad taste in there mouth. I'm sure after reading this Al will address it and there will be no further issues. As Mike said Al's good like that. Themelis Ty for bringing up the concern and I assure you it will not happen again, I believe this to an isolated situation and the probability of it happening again is as likely as you hitting the NY state lotto 2 times in a row.

Johnny - Good to hear from you. It's very rare that we have any trouble with our lap counter, so I could assure you that you would not have any problem. I label all cards (if you're running more than one card for multiple classes) as, for example "Johnny 1" and "Johnny 2". Unless you had the cards swapped between different cars, which is what you said I told you, the only other problem the lap counter itself might have would be if your card were cut or torn, or if it were too far back in the body - with the detector over the board or motor. However, I am pretty good with telling people to make sure the word Core is down and forward.
It's certainly easy enough to scan a card and see what it is labeled as and see if it's working properly. If the problem were called to my attention after the first race, I don't know of a single reason why it would have carried over to the second race - again - unless it was not the right card in the car. Considering that was the first time you were ever at Action, I would have only had the card(s?) in the system that you gave me to scan in that day, and I typically ask people to scan them and tell me which card they are running in each class when I burn them. Not looking to place blame - just offering reasons for the problem and simple ways to avoid it in the future. It's also easy enough to run for a few seconds before each race to see if cards are counting, and then simply stop the counter and restart it for the race, but I usually only do that when there is a problem, which again, is not common. Again, I don't recall the specific problem, but card issues are usually pretty simple to troubleshoot - especially during breaks between rounds. Don't let it be a concern this time around. We'll be more cautious with new cards in the system to make sure they are working properly.
Hope to see you at the Winternats'!

I'll get you in - just try to give me as much notice as possible when you have a better idea since I will be assigning seating so no one will feel rushed to get a seat. See you then, hopefully! If you can pass the word along to the Maj's group to try to get me some more definites, that would be appreciated. I keep hearing from various sources that people are coming from up there, but very few have contacted me like you have letting ME know. No info 'right from the horse's mouth!'

I agree! Al says it gives non local guys a dis advantage. I really dont see how usually out of towners go the day before anyway. The Garden state Shootout was open the day before with the layout. I would open friday during the day if anyone wanted to. I went to majs from 12-5 then came back to action to race that night. I think not being open give a good setup guy a better advantage. When went up to RC Madness for the Tamiya race
they had the same thoughts and I said to them so you want me to drive 3 hours before the race without practice! They changed it and had open practice all day. And on top of it we loose a night of racing. As of last night Al said he wasnt going to open on friday at All. Now who has the dis advantage ! JMO!
