Hoonigan Nissan 240Z

Hoonigan Nissan 240Z

Materials:
Kyosho Nissan 240z Over Fender unpainted autoscale
Krylon Fusion Satin Black
Krylon Gloss Smoke Grey
Kyrlon Gloss Patriotic Blue
Krylon Fusion Gloss Red Pepper
Krylon Satin White
Tamiya Clear Red
Tamiya Clear Yellow
Molotow Liquid Chrome 2mm pen
Evergreen Polystyrene
Future Floor Polish

This was my foray into the unknown. A good racing friend gave me free reign to do anything I wanted to make a 240Z for him. I've done the historic tributes before and wanted to test my skills in new areas and landed on the Hoonigan 240Z! Love the color pallet on this one but body kits are a new thing for me. I bought an array of Evergreen polystyrene in various shapes and size and set to work building the ground effects kit to mimic the Hoonigan car. After much trial and error, I ended up with this version. I discarded at least two other versions which were just not up to snuff. This is still rough around the edges but perfection my first time out was an unrealistic goal and settled for what would be good enough if it were my car for the track. Polystyrene is very soft! Most of the losses came from overcuts, etc. I landed on using Plastruct Plastic Weld to glue the parts to the body. The additional layer to the rear spoiler is simply to hide the holes in the body for the stock spoiler that was not installed. I wanted to make this much smaller but there are limits to what my fat fingers can hold and place as well as cut from flat sheet.

All the graphics are done in paint. I did not have any spare Nissan logos so left an empty space for it should I ever get them again. While painting the rear end, the paint flaked out on me and sputtered which resulting in the sand paper texture. I have terrible luck with stripping paint so chose to soldier on instead. This one will be handed off to it's owner and with luck, tracked.

Nice work, body kits are tough. Did you do the wheel arches too, or did you start with the 240 that has them?

No kidding, very rare. White body? I like the clear aero headlight housing on those too, the other version has just the flat lenses.

Thought about putting lights in it?

Yeah, started from unpainted body.

Lights get tricky. you run into issues on how to power it as this can vary. The Owner can plug in a kit if they choose, it's LED ready.
