I thought it had to be windows OS as well, thus the surprise when someone told me this tablet worked.

Just built my first EVO car from parts, and want to run it with brushed motor, but only have the PN Bluetooth ICS programmer. What hardware do I need to be able to change the setting from brushed to brushless? And are there any alternatives to the Kyosho cable?

I am not aware of any alternatives as of yet, if there are, someone please let us know.

You need to go to ICS settings to change to brushed. On my cars, it was set to brushless by default.

Thanks for the response. Thatís disappointing though. Guess Iíll have to wait to finish the build and test after I find someone with a Kyosho ICS cable. Iím not shelling out $55 for one after spending over $100 for an EVO board and receiver.

DasMikro makes a USB cable that works with the EVO. Retails for $22 if anyone is looking for a cheaper alternative to the Kyosho cable.

This one?
DasMikro bluetooth ICS Adapter For Kyosho Mini-Z
The listing does not mention compatibility with EVO nor do the corresponding apps.

thanks, very good to know they have a new one out. Odd that it's not on bangood yet and just excel.
Anyway, they link to the Kyosho software and EVO supported by USB connection only it seems. I had already bought the Kyosho version, not much more expensive BTW from JDM. Otherwise, would jump on this myself.

I need help. I got the adapter, downloaded and installed the driver from KO website and ICS software from Kyosho website. I can see the adapter on Com5 and select it in the software, but when I try to read or write to the board, I get a communication error. I donít know what Iím doing wrong. Any help is appreciated.

Not sure how/why, but when I used the black/white only extension cable, it worked! The short Mini-Z cable with red/white/black that I used initially never worked alone. Makes no sense, but glad I got it working. Bone stock EVO car feels pretty good!

Sorry for my misleading answer, I thought the question was more generally whether the Kindle could run the various ICS mini-z apps, not the EVO specifically. I know, thread title.

I did end up getting the dasmikro cable, but I can't get it to work. Is there a driver that needs to be installed in addition to running the app? I'm not a Windows guy, but I think my problem is identifying the device and assigning it to a COM port. When I run the app, it will say it's reading the settings but just hangs and kind of locks up. ugh. Windows 8.1. Pretty sure it's that I need to install that KO driver, but can't seem to make that happen.

My EVO combined with an EX6R has seemingly zero deadband between forward and reverse, and no brake in between. Like letting off the throttle sometimes sends the car into reverse.

edit: as a mac user, let me put this here for future bumblers like myself. You have to use Device Manager to manually install the Ko Propo drivers. You have to make sure the cable is plugged in correctly, and you have to turn the car on in pairing mode while plugged in.
