I want to open up my differential but having problems. I can get the plates of the motor side of the sprocket out by unscrewing the bolt(?), but can't get the plates of the wheel side of the sprocket out.
seems there's that moon shaped washer stopping, and i don't know how to get it out without breaking it.
That is an E-clip cuz it looks like a little E sor of... also some call it a C clip, but those dont have the same shape... and are used in the other direction.. any way, I usualy pop one end up away from axle to remove them.. with screw driver, however if your not carful you can lose it, it dont have a lot of spring to it so it wont shoot across the room, but if you pry too hard etc... it can still fling a few feet, I already lost mine from a stock diff, but thats cuz it simply slid of the table hours after being dissasebled. -- the ball diffs usualy come with spares... at least the more costly ones do.
You will probly find little reason to take it apart, unless it REALY REALY needs to be re-lubed, most that come assembled are already lubed, but I think there is one brand that dont.. not sure though cuz I have yet to actualy buy my self a ball diff .
thanks for the help.
It was easy afterall, just didn't want to take a chance and break it.
Just for you to know, it's not for my diff, it's my friends. He bought a 3rd party and there was so much friction compared to my kyosho, so i opened it up and greased it. it's helped somewhat but now I'm totally suspicious of 3rd party diffs. they don't seem to work as smoothly.
