Yes. Same number, 1-6 for legal US crystals. Also, they should have the same frequency number printed on the actual crystal. This will be like, 26.997 or something like that.

where'd you get them?
the numbers (1-6) on the crystals are sometimes confusing... as some crystals have the same numbers on them but have different frequency...
read the frequency (as russ mentioned) usually 26.xxx to 27.xxx and make sure the crystal in your controller (usually called the tx crystal - transmitter) has the same frequency as the crystal in your car (usually called the rx crystal - receiver)

Also, try your CLK crystals in your S2000, maybe it's not the crystals that are the problem.

vince...
don't panic... like i said there are two numbers on the crystals... usually 1 to 6 in the u.s. but outside the u.s. it's 1 to 12
the other set of numbers on the crystals are the crystal's frequency usually 26.xxx to 27.xxx (i.e. 26.995 or 27.095)
make sure that the frequencies of your crystals match... otherwise they won't work together...
tell us specifically what happened like where'd you get the crystals and other pertinent data or info so we can help you out better...

wow... i guess you should've checked them before buying...
can you give the number and frequency of both crystals? just fill out the table below
ex.
clk
tx crystal frequency / crystal no. =
rx crystal frequency / crystal no. =
s2000
tx crystal frequency / crystal no. =
rx crystal frequency / crystal no. =
note: tx crystal - the one in the controller
rx crystal - the one that goes in the car
i'm thinking - one tx crystal can control both rx crystals if they are the same frequency... otherwise i guess you'll have to buy a new set of crystals... but why bother... you can only drive one car at a time right?
that's if you're not giving the other car to your brother or friend to play around with...

my Mini-z and my friend's both are from Hong Kong.
My frequency is 26.995 (TX Band 1 and RX Band 2)
My friends is Tx Band 5 and Rx Band 10 (I forgot the Frequency, but it's the same on both crystals...)
In the U.S. the Band numbers are the same on both the Tx and the Rx
it sounds like to me that whoever sold you the S2000 gave you the wrong crystal.

The RX and TX xtals ARE different... if you have two RX xtals in the car and transmitter or two TX xtals... it may or may not operate properly... they are often a hair different in the frequency

My concern is that the mismatched crystals imply that you bought an open item, was it advertised as such?
