Kyosho Ball Diff in PN Alum Rear

Has anyone had trouble when using a Kyosho Ball Diff in a PN Alum Rearend with PN Alum Rear top cover? When I screw everything down the Differental binds. I did not have this trouble with a Atomic composite diff. I have try two different PN rearends, but I get the same thing. Hoping that someone has a solution or to know if it is just not going to work. If it matters, I'm using Atomic ceramic bearings, tried different sets of those too. Also tried shims and no shims, does not make a difference.

Did you try using shims to raise the cover up a little to relieve pressure on the bearing. Or sand the inside bearing arch on the cover. Bearings are very sensitive. A little more material, and you get too much press fit. Less material and you get too loose a fit. With the stock plastic parts, they give a little, so you don't have binding problems. Not with aluminum though.

Thanks for your reply. That makes sense, it seems to bind when I screw down the top cover. Wish this was a true direct fit part, guess I have some work to do. Just when I think I've had every experiance with the AWD, I encounter something else. Still, like to tinker with the AWD more then anything else.

I had to shim my PN rear end to get it right. I have a Kyosho ball diff, bearings and gold terminal chassis; the PN 94-98mm setup, knuckles and .1mm shims. The anti-swaybar plate ended up working with the same shims.

Just experiment with shims until you can tighten it all the way and have a smooth diff at the same time. Don't forget a tiny bit of blue loc-tite. Not a drip, use just enough to fill the threads on the lower half of one side of the screws. Kyosho and PN have shims that will work

Thanks for the suggestions, Shimming the top cover solved the problem.
