Ive been using the IC tags for a while but wanted to know what the best current systems out there that will work with flipside and will not suffer from interference/occasional missed laps
Keep in mind, whatever you buy, something else will come along... PN changes timing systems almost as frequently as we change tracks
Domestically, Easy Lap and I-Lap are the predominate choices. I've not used Easy Lap before and cannot comment on it however I-Lap is reliable. They all have their quirks though.
Good point. Craig of ILap is fantastic to work with. If you ever have a problem, you don’t need to worry about dealing with overseas email, phone calls.
We use Easy lap. It has been very reliable and easy enough to get from Kenon. I bought it because we have a very small club, so cost was a huge deal for us. The transponders are much smaller than iLap and half the price. We use it with Zround, so I can't speak how it works with other software. I was very concerned about customer service if we had a problem, but everything worked flawlessly other than you must select Robitronic USB instead of Easy lap to get it to work in Zround. That said, I bought a ILAP transponder for a race in Portland and I needed to get some extra wiring harnesses after I messed up my first order. They were fantastic to deal with and FAST.
One hint: if you go with Easy Lap, figure out how many transponders you need with your initial order. The transponders are super cheep if ordered with the initial system. If you order 5 they are only $11 each.
