Having just wrapped up my Chrome ZR1 Covid Special trophy car, I was inspired by a regional racer to try a color I have rarely ever use, Orange... I believe I've only ever used Orange once before and it was on a timing bridge, not a car.
Anyone familiar with the actual livery will see this is a stark departure from the actual color pairing. I swapped Orange for Yellow and Chrome for Red. I felt Black, Red and Orange would be just a bit to much similarity and the Chrome would be a distinct highlight in replacement of Red.
I took what I learned from the Covid Special and laid down the Chrome pass last as it reacts poorly to mask tape adhesive. It wasn't my preferred sequence but worked out well enough.
Livery wise, I had to take some creative license as the scale of the decals was slightly larger than 1:27. I left some off simply because I didn't have the space as well. This livery really packs a punch with graphics, lots of stuff to place. More than I think I've ever placed on one car before actually.
I would actually like to try this one again, albeit with another change in color paring. I don't like the actual colors so will change in up again but I only had one copy of the decals so it will have to wait. I typically order two copies at a time just in case it's something I really like as I typically like to turn around and run another version right away, like the Godzilla cars.
Very nice! I don't see clear coat in your list of materials, do you have one? Curious how that will affect the chrome paint. I think that chrome looks great, kind of ends up like a glossy silver metallic, but with the metallic part at the right scale.
The chrome has no flake, it's a constant finish which is nice. I paint on Future Floor Polish for clear coat. It's not nearly as durable as clear paint but doesn't negatively react to the paint either and I'm tired of ruining paint jobs trying to use clear coat paint. If I run them, which I do for nearly every car I paint, I don't sweat them getting beat up. It's part of the charm if you will.
