Lights for ASF/VE PRO/EVO using ICS socket unravelled

I've been making custom LED light sets for a while, and I usually skip brake function and make the wiring cleaner and simpler by just having brake/taillights on at 100% all the time. This is how to do it so you have functional brake lights.

The KYOSHO light sets use the port, and there are two versions: one for RWD, 4x4 and Sport models (KYOMZW429R), and one for ASF, VE Pro, and EVO models that have an ICS port (KYOMZW439R). The 429R is pretty straightforward, with a red/black pair for front and back. The 439R is more complicated, with resistors and a crossover wire. I'm addressing the latter.

Here's what it looks like, I removed the shrink tube from the resistors:

Here's a diagram:

This allows the brake lights to be at somewhere around 30-50% brightness, and then 100% when brakes are applied.

That particular functionality was a mystery to me for a long time, and I finally just cut one open and used a multimeter to measure things. 390 ohm resistor coming off the headlight positive, and a 100 ohm resistor between the 4th pin positive and the taillights.

Very interesting!

Is there a way to make a jumper so that you can run a transponder with a light set?

Yes, you could. if you tap into the red and black from the first two pins, you could also run a transponder. The only thing you have to be sure of is that your jumper is prior to any resistors.
