That was a lot of fun.
9 or 10 people showed up. We helped set up the track in the morning. Phil was trying to set up the new timing system. Took several phone calls.
This is the third race I have been in. The first two times I finished next to last at PN regional and last the second time. But I practiced since then. The first race was fast with lots of cars, but by avoiding pile ups and driving carefully, I snake my way up front for the win. The second race of the day was even more competitive than the first. A yellow Ferrari 575GTC driven by Oliver was right on my tail for couple of laps. I just can't pull away from him enough to get a safe margin. Then I made a mistake and he passed me. He made a mistake and I passed him. It was like that until I made 2 errors in a row. He was way beyond my reach then. Luckily, Rudy, the PN reginal champ came roaring up pass me with Phil's borrowed tricked out Enzo . My only small hope was when he pass the Ferrari they might get into an accident. There was an accident couple laps latter. They got tangled up which allowed me to pass them both in the next lap. Down to the last minute mark, I got tangled up with another car near the start finish corner. The Ferarri was catching up fast. I quickly backed up but ran into it. I was at fault for that one. Should have waited for the field to pass by before backing up. I will claim rookie status for not knowing race etiquite I got the most laps but I think Oliver really had the race had I not backed up.

Looks like there is definitely another race next month. Wonder if I could still keep the lead
Last time I got lucky because you and Chris had hooking up issues on the back tires for that new track. Otherwise, you guys would be fast.
I will be getting a used MARs R radio for my car if the deal goes thru. From what I read here, it should have faster response to help with driving. Still don't have the money or permission to go Helios.

Ben,
Do you remember meeting Jeff R.? He's a 10th scale guy that races on Charley B's events.
He comes by the track from time to time and runs his Mini-z with an old Marz. I like the Marz. I'd say it's as good as the Hellios. It just has a different feel to it.
Also, if the deal falls thru, look into the Futaba 2pl. My son has one and it's a nice radio for the money.
I'm bummed I missed the January race, but I'll be at the February race for sure.
Tim,
Come on out.... We won't make you work, I promise. Just bring a car and throw down with us.

Heard you were busy with work. Last race was fun. Phil had stock and modified class. I believe it was Antony that won both of them. I actually got two Mars radio. First one was a Mars, then I found out the MarsR was faster, so I got the R and sold the Mars and the old Airtronics. At one point, I had 4 radios in the house. Went over to my wife holding all 4 radios and asked her if she thought I had enough radios. She was not amused Had to promise on the spot I would sell two of them.
Tim - Come on out. At this point, I believe is going to be a monthly event. Turn out has been good so far.

Bummer on the vet.
John M. has been trying to get a freind of ours into the hobby. He races real vets out at Willow Springs. John M. figured he'd get a kick out of a vet mini-z.
I think John found a blank and is painting it up for the guy.

Hi Frank,
Philip told me the next race would be on the 27th of this month (next Saturday).
I'm going for sure this time.
For chargers....
I own, and use allot of different ones. Here's my $0.02.
Raovac IC3 15min Charger - I like it. I think the IC3's have a bit more punch off the line. They are supposed to not get hot based on some proprietary tech by Raovac. But, bottom line, they are more expensive, and the cells don't last all that long. There's a strip at the bottom of the cell, under the wrapper, that makes contact with the IC3 charger. That's how the charger knows it's an IC3 cell. But after a few weeks of use, they stop charging correctly. I still use them, but of all the cells I have, I have the most trouble with IC3's. Also, the IC3's are the hardest to find. Radio Shack used to Carry them, but they've been discontinued.
Duracell 15min charger - I like this one too. The upside is, you can get it at wall-mart for around $39 (look in the camera section). You can charge any AA or AAA in 15min. I like the Duracell AAA's, they are solid performers. Nothing special, but they work every time. Another nice bonus is the Duracell takes 12v input. So it's an easy conversion to use a car battery to charge from.
Energizer 15min charger - I have one of these too. I like the Duracell better. The Energizer gets picky about charging cells. I still haven't tracked down what the issue is yet. I'm sure it's the AAA cells and not the charger. But I can put cells that the Energizer rejects into the Duracell and they charge just fine. You can find the Energizer at Target.
I also have a MaHa like Philip. I like it, but becouse it's a 1hr charger, I tend to use the IC3 for racing, and the Duracell for every day.
For a solid performer that will charge just about anything go with the Duracell.
