Feb 4, 2007 Toronto Big Race. Who's going?

Anyone from NY going to this event? The drivers in Toronto are pretty good. I especially like the rules of this race(AD Band!!!!). Check www.zzhobby.com

Wow, those stock rules are very specific. That's the tightest set of spec racing rules I've ever seen. Well, not quite. The motor selection is up to the driver, but the gear ratios are fixed.

Thanks to the NYC guys for coming up the race. Once again you showed how fast you are. Hope you had (or are having if your still driving) trip home... Willy/Sai/Bennet: I'll post your trophy pics once I've got them downloaded.

It was Sunny all the way until Buffalo; then we were hit by a blinding snow storm. Coming back was no problem.

I won AWD and Stock; Willy won F1

We once again won the messiest table award.

Notice their laser lap counter; track layout and the restaurants next to the pits.

Hi Sai, Adam here. Looked like a nice layout. How was the lap counter. Was there any issues of missed laps.

There were a couple of misses. I am getting the European Giro Z lap counter soon and it should be the best system out there. Check it out in RCKenon site.

However, the laser lap counter works pretty well but still not perfect.

I'm going to chip in here as well... There were some issues with the lap timer... mostly in the morning around 10:00am. The sun happened to be shinning down through a window right at the receiving end of the timing bridge. We had to add some light block (masking tape) to help dull the signal. Otherwise the missed laps were few - nothing major I don't think. Typically only when someone's car was in an accident and the flag got mangled. That being said, I would say that the numbers of missed laps/errors was about on par with what the CORE system had during the PN qualifier up here back in october.

To help overcome the varying ambient light conditions, I think we are going to put in a variable resistor in line with the photo diode. This will allow us to vary the amount of "light" that the computer will see.

Oh, and I've also hosted my pictures, some good, some really fuzzy:

Nice shots! How did you shoot such small cars in motion like that? I have a Canon Powershot Pro1 and wonder if it can capture Mini-Zs in motion.

The lap counter was nice compared to CORE; with CORE I always get a glitch when passing the counter.

Same here... I have a Canon Rebel XT... but I only have cheap lenses, nothing with the image stabilizers. But if you focus on the right spot, and then move your head/camera at the same rate as the car, you sometimes get lucky...

As for the timing bridge, I'm learning as I go... this one is better than the last one I built for james. I think with the variable resistors, we will be better able to fine tune the sensitivity.

P.s. some of the better action shots are:

canon camera's usually have a sport setting which shortens the shutter speed enough that you can get action shots. you can also use the brakcketing settings to snap several quick images in a row each time you push the button. i don't think i've ever messed with all the features on my camera other than the typical stuff.
