hey guys, I have opened a few motor cans and wanted to replace the capacitors, but I cannot get end wich attaches to the can to solder.
I have tried to apply flux to the can and cap lead, tined the lead and push it against the can but no success....
also while we are on the subject, how do you make a PN atmaute fit into an ATM can? it fits but theres not play at all, the shaft seems longer on the enbell side?
Thanks,

Well, on Atomic BB cans, I've found that by roughening up the tabs, the solder will stick.
And to get a longer armature to fit, I've done that ph2t does for the Plasma-Dash armatures. Take off the endbell BB and shave some plastic away from where the BB sits.
As far as soldering goes, the solder likes to stick to things that are hot. So try and leave the tip of the iron on the can right by the capacitor, then with your other hand feed the solder on to the capacitor. If done correctly you will have a nice drop right on the motor.

Hi ProfoxCG.
For better results tinned the tips of the caps too.
Yep, soldering flux is necessary, it is a cleaner that makes tinning possible and the solder work better.
If tinning the soldering iron tip, the heat conducts much better and faster too, reducing the soldering process time.
Cheers
