Could someone with a busted piece please help me figure out the exact weight necessary to balance the motor/pcb side? I was thinking of cutting the front end off and then cutting the chassis in exact halves. After that just weight each half with all of its parts and that should be the exact answer.
I keep hearing that smoke chassis break left and right, so I figure I'd ask this before you guys trash them.
There is no such thing as the exact weight needed. It depends on the batteries you use and the motor position (the smaller the pinion and spur, the closer you bring the motor to the center line of the chassis.) Also the type of motor, motor mounts and heat sink you are using, if you are using the top cover, types of wire, etc.
In any which way something like 4-8 grams on the left side of the car should get you close to the balance point.

Good points CT. Id like to add one more variable. Itll also depend on where you mount the weight on the chassis. If you were to hang a weight out on the edge of the body, it would have more of an effect then adding it close to the center.
Then let me ask this: what do you think is the most effective place(s) to concentrate ballast at? Thats one thing I learned w/ my 15- precise concentration > general spread of weight.
There's no other way to fully understand the "inner workings," right? Plus I think that just slapping a wide body ona MR02 is horribly boring when these chassis allow so much more.
I think the best spot is at the left front side of the chassis, behind the front wheel, in front of the motor, This is where it is not only going to be most effective because the car is lacking the weight, but also because it is all the way to the outside, minimizing the amount that you have to add.

Christian, then as a follow up question: would I want to cover that whole area or focus on the top/bottom half? Also, what would you suggest as the new weight to add?
