i actually just plugged them into my laptop and the sound is surprising good for such cheap and small speakers. plenty loud for a pitbox.

Yeah I just clipped the USB end off and stripped it back. I connected it to a 5v lead. The speakers are on all the time so when the box is turned on the speakers are on.

i decided to leave the stock plug alone incase i need to use it with my laptop at some point in the future.

i used a spare epoch jack and soldered on some lines with quick disconnects and plugged it into my 5v lines from my psu and it works great!

fyi, i ran the + to the center and - to the outside leads on the jack

Yeah that sounds right . Glad you got it running. For the 12 hour race I just never got a chance to use it. Way too busy for only 3 drivers and 2 pit crew/gofers/support.
